I have tried many domain registers and GoDaddy is by far the best for me.
I transfered all my domains to GoDaddy and now control them under one account.

They have Secure SSL Certificates for Only $29.95!
Which is a must if you want to give your customers secure shopping

They also do webhosting and it looks like decent plan but I have not tried it.

I use GoDaddy for my domain registrar, and AussieHosts for my hosting. Both seem to work great.

I recently purchased my first domain name and went through GoDaady. I am starting out with their free 5-page starter package and the support has been great! Once I feel comfortable about how to do things, I'll probably upgrade with them. I purchased another with register.com and don't have anywhere near the bells and whistles that I do with GoDaddy and the registration was quite a bit more. I made the mistake of not looking around and went to Register.com first.

Namecheap.com - $8.88 for .com, .org, .net - something around $3 for .info Comes with free url redirect, POP email, etc. The domain registrations are also coming with free whoisguard, which is great if you're not running a business off of a certain domain (privatizes your whois information), because it'll reduce your spam and unsolicited phone calls. However, if you're running a business or selling products off of that domain, it doesn't give you a very trustworthy appearance.

Also, as far as SSL certificates go - if you want to play around with one for a month and figure out how all the configuration and stuff goes, but not PAY for that month, try http://www.rapidssl.com/ssl-certificate/ssl-products.html(see the 30 day free trial). It's rather easy to change your security key over after the trial period.

For SSL the big question is, are you only going to put it on one subdomain, or do you need a "wildcard". Cheapest wildcard out there is here: http://www.rapidssl.com/chainedssl/chainedssl_wildcard.html for $175 (I paid somewhere around $800 for that through versign )

Starfield is not as well recognized by browsers, sometimes leading to a security alert by your browser. (Starfield is what you get through godaddy, and is what paypal uses)

I set it up so that I could send my clients somewhere without having to get entangled in their domain ownership. It is great. GoDaddy has a lot of other services and software, some of which I do not recommend at all, but some people want that kind of thing so there it is. Most of their services are excellent.

The "name grabber" service came in handy when I had a client who had failed to keep an old domain updated or kepp his password etc. I just set him up with a hyphenated version of his old name, put a redirect page on the host that was holding the original captive, and then got it for him as soon as it expired.

I have my domain with godaddy & until Sunday, I had my hosting & shopping cart there. Their shopping cart is FAR too expensive, although it is very nice.

And it's true, their customer service can't be beat. It's incredible and really is 24/7 because I've used it at all hours & on Sundays. Excellent service.

The only issue I would have is that you have to buy anything you want separately---newsletter, shopping cart, album software, or code everything yourself--guest books, etc. Or find lots of free places to get what you want. Which is what I did till it nearly drove me nuts. LOL

So I went where I could get it all in one place for cheaper. BUT I still like godaddy. Just couldn't "afford" them (time & value for the buck).

I also use godaddy. At the time they were the cheapest and I have no reason to be unhappy with them. They seem to be the most popular amoungst the PSU crowd.

You don't have to accept everything at GoDaddy, that is why all the separate charges are actually better. You can register the domain and "point" it to one of the hosts that provides the other parts.

That is why I set up Vulcan Internetas a reseller. Complete flexibility for everyone. If PSU goes ahead and sets up those new servers with its own host packages, the same domains can point over to them.

I register my domains with Godaddy (I have 3 and a few for clients). They are the best known and probably best supported register. I run my sites on a Debian server that resides in my office. That way I have full control.

Is Go Daddy still a good one to use? I see the messages suggesting them are from last year. I am ready to make the leap and want some advice before I jump!
