Need help setting up the dns servers in godaddy. I am not sure where what to do. I'm in the Domain Control Center in Godaddy, but am I supposed to erase the already added dns servers in slot 1 and 2 or am should i just add the dns servers provided by PSU in slots 3 and 4? Please help....

Use the DNS servers provided by PSU and eliminate the godaddy ones.

And I have yet to receive a receipt of payment for purchasing the psu hosting? i received the email with the invoice, but does that mean that payment has not gone through, or do i have to do it manuelly?

Tony, if you paid with paypal, PSU will pick up the payment and you will receive the receipt when he does.

I'll be waiting for few more months, maybe before my 6-month host registration expire for me to register my domains to godaddy for upto 5-10 years.

I've been searching but can't find other good deals like extending the years of domain registration with ease.

I like godaddy, but yes, they have way too much advertising and distractions when signing up. I've had their hosting and domain account for years - no problems. I recently was signing up with Cedent (as CNET put a recommendation for them), but after a lot of problems with registration - I canceled shortly after they created my account. Bad service - hidden stuff on signing up that I was not aware of. I didn't realize they were a part of Aplus net either. Both companies I would stay FAR away from.

I've not heard anyone mention it, so I thought I might add a word of advice.

Lately there have been many cases of domain name grabbing by registrars and other sites as well as ISPs. GoDaddy was caught doing it, but blamed an internal employee.

What happens is you search for the availability of a domain name, take a moment to decide and voila! it is suddenly not available. These companies will place a 2 week hold on a name for virtually nothing and in that time check traffic to the site or even offer it to you for sale if you make an inquiry. This has also been the case from people who simply input the name into their browser to see if it is resolved. Some ISPs resell lists of unresolved names to domain harvesting companies. They are both valuable in generating new names as well as creating sites which are commonly mistyped.

So, make a list of prospective names in order of preference and when you find one available, get it. There has even been talk of Internic doing this, so beware. I've seen it happen many times.

I may as well put in a plug for an excellent hosting company.

axishost.com

If you do a search you'll find the owner, Tina Peters, has an excellent reputation in the business. She built her previous company into one of the best options available, sold it, and then it began to unravel. That's because customer service is to be number one and the new owners just didn't get it.

They have Fantastico installed for easy installation of CubeCart, OS Commerce, or Zen Cart. Shell access is available by simply requesting it. Most importantly, trouble tickets are answered quickly and intelligently.

I use namesecure.com
It is easy, reliable and offers many bells and whistles.
It is economical. My domain names cost $7.99 per year... $3.99 for "who is" privacy service.

I get excellent customer service when I have a question.

Go Daddy offers an affiliate program... where people who promote it, such as you see here, get a commission if users sign up.
My neighbor makes a bit of coin off of that.

I recommend namesecure.com for simplicity and functionality.
I have been with them for over 5 years.

I once was sucked into the Go Daddy promotions and registered a domain name there. I was extremely dissapointed with thier web building services, so I initiated a transfer of the domain name to namesecure.com

It took OVER A YEAR and just short of an act of Congress or a Presidential Pardon... to get that done.

Go Daddy fought me every step of the way.

I did not ask for any favors or money back... just wanted to transfer my domain name services to a new hosting service.

Go Daddy is like a cult. Even after I sucessfully convinced them to do the right thing... that they initially said would be so easy... They fought me and blocked the transfer.

I unsubscribed to thier emails... and still get them to this day.
I called... I emailed... just got one again today.

Go Daddy is like the Jehovas Witnesses of the Internet.
They never go away and keep leaving fliers... even when you express no interest.

Bill Parsons should be brought up on charges.

Hi Trout,
Thanks for the heads up on GoDaddy.
I am going through H-E -- double hockey sticks right now as I believe someone has "scoffed" up my name ,also. They offered it to me to buy for $10,000.00 !! Oh my goodness- and all the while I thought it belonged to me! I am now having a bit of trouble getting my YAHOO servers to point to my new one here at PSU- Patience, Patience, I have learned a lot of it since leaving Feebay!

I just purchased my domain names through godaddy earlier this month. I signed up for hosting through HostGo...they have been great so far. I haven't got my website up yet, but I am working on it. I have been trying to use ecrater and blujay to list a few items until I get everything going on my website. It is going to be a steep learning curve, but it will be worth it. Good luck everyone on your new sites!
