I am getting awfully tired of dealing with the glitches on Yahoo! yesterday, I tried to relist some expired auctions. They appeared to go through, but wouldn't disappear off my unsold list. Nor could I find them on my 'selling' list. I just quit messing with them.
This morning I checked and they are still on my unsold list, but also on my selling list. I opened two windows so I could delete the ones that i relisted yesterday from my unsold list-didn't want to list them twice!
But everytime I'd try to do a search on my selling list, I'd get a 'no auctions listed for ' message, and couldn't check for them.

How screwed up can one auction site get, before it implodes?

Your post confirmed my decision to not list at yahoo. It seems all I ever see regarding them is problems? Not for me, thanks but no thanks!

...well, that being said - unfortunately (or fortunately, however you choose to look at it) Yahoo and BluJay are the only other sites I've successfully had sales at outside of feeBay.

Agreed that their customer service is no service at all and that their tech team seems to be constantly on vacation. One gets the sense that some programmer set the Yahoo auctions into motion and that the site is just running on it's own in a dark server room somewhere - forgotten by anyone who matters.

BUT - it costs me nothing (except the occassional headache) to just let some inventory sit there until the sales come along once in a while. Without a final value fee to pay, it is quite litterally free - so we get what we pay for I suppose... and in my view, I get a sale occassionally for what costs me - nothing.

I get enough sales..compared to what I have to pay to sell on Ebay, I do pretty well.

The problems are just a major time consumer of time I don't really have to spare. I wish there was some alternative, but right now I don't see one.

It's just a major aggravation to spend an hour trying to work around the problems to do something I should have been able to do in ten minutes. I relisted some auctions that ended yesterday, but the ones that I tried to relist yesterday are still showing up on unsold list, so I had to cross check to make sure they were now on the selling list, then delete them manually from the unsold list. Then there are the ones I relisted when we were in the 'one relist' mode that will have to be done again soon. And the double relists that occasionally show up. And the ones with the disappearing pictures...and the buyers with negative fb in the double digits that are still bidding..and the list goes on.

I think if I added up all the time I've spent dealing with these things, my profit per hour would probably be a negative number!

Yeah, I agree that Yahoo has frequent (and frustrating) glitches.

Sunday morning I awoke to various e-mails from a Yahoo buyer. He was quite "colorful" in stating that he bought a product with the paypal instant pay feature. He went on to say that Yahoo was redirecting the instant pay to a page he never had seen before...so he didn't pay.

I sent the guy an e-mail "apologizing" for the prob and sent him an invoice directly from paypal. I immediately received the paypal receipt for the request of money in my e-box.

Didn't hear a thing from the buyer.

Lo & behold, TODAY (48 hours later), I see his 'payment paid' in paypal dated Sunday. No confirmation was sent to my ebox from paypal or yahoo that the payment had been made. It was sheer luck that I checked paypal on my way out the door.

So I don 't know if this is a yahoo thang or a paypal thang...but it seems to be a mysterious event.

So, I'll be checking paypal through-out the course of the day to ensure I don't have a payment for a sale that I didn't know that I made.

I know mine would be. Concidering I've had things listed at Y since they went free again, I've only had 3 or 4 small sales there and only 1 of them paid.

Right now my stuff is expired and I'm not going to bother with them for now. I have too many other things that really need to get done.

I've been having the same problem with Paypal-I send an invoice, they pay, PP doesn't let me know. I thought maybe they had changed their policy, but I nearly missed a payment someone made, myself.

Wow... just had another one. Guy emailed me regarding a multiple sale. Since the guy wanted three similar items, I tweaked the postage/price and sent him an invoice. Got my PP receipt.

An hour later, the guy emails me asking for a tracking number. Huh? Before I emailed him back, I checked PP. Yup, the guys payment was sitting there.

I emailed PP after checking all my 'notifications'...they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Two nights ago I had the same problem. I relisted four items but they still appeared in my “Not Sold” section. I gave up and relisted them the next day without a problem. But this is just typical Yahoo selling. There is no way that I’m going to leave Yahoo Auctions. Although I have never used any auction site other than Ebay and Yahoo, and therefore cannot judge the others, many of the other auction forums complain about lack of traffic or lack of sales. Yahoo auctions forums is mostly complaints about glitches rather than sales, and this has been my experience also. I can’t stand the glitches, but I continue to make sales.
Since I opened my eCrater store, I have been deemphasizing Yahoo as a fixed-price venue and being more selective about what I list. I have made several sales this month on eCrater, and by being selective with Yahoo Auctions listings, my sales have not dropped at all.

I would believe the non-email issue described above would be a PP issue vs. a Yahoo issue. Yesterday, Yahoo was very, very 'funky', but I was able to get some items listed and a few others relisted.

As far as PP email notices, I had a sale a while back from BluJay - there was no notice of nothing - from PP or BJ - learned right then and there - my first stop when I've been 'distracted' from the computer is 'sold' or 'orders' (depending upon the site. 2nd stop is Paypal!

I'm with Marty - it works for me, and yes - there are glitches, but they free...

I'm sure sorry your relist issues were so 'painful' - I dunno that I've ever had that happen....but would be frustrated if it did - 4 sure!! Confused

If I were inclined to believe conspiracy theories, I would think
Yahoo has some kind of an agreement with eBay to keep their
listings down with the constant glitches.

More likely, its a simple case of Yahoo Auctions being low
priority. I have no idea why auctions would be low priority, while
Yahoo's other free services run very smoothly with quick
responses to fix any glitches.

For example: Yahoo Groups has one of the best searches you
will find. When there was a problem with the groups message
delivery, Yahoo took immediate steps to fix the problem with
hourly updates on the "Yahoo Groups Blog".

Auction glitches go on for months. There have been problems
with the search, YSM, relisting, photo hosting, etc. that are
rarely acknowledged, let alone fixed.

Just ran into another glitch. This was with a scam buyer, but the problem still exists.

the guy bid $1000, the buy now price. but he sent me a copy of the automatic invoice that Yahoo sent him, and it says he won with the opening bid of 595. Since he's from the Ukraine, USPS forbids sending jewelry, so no problem. If he had been a legitimate seller, he might have wanted it for the 595 yahoo quoted him!

Yahoo glitches aside...yes, it is a problem specific to PP.

My neighbor sells topline products and had a sale from her website. No PP email notification. She called PP and they told her that 'due to numerous storms, various PP functions were temporaraily malfunctioning, but the problems are expected to be fixed very soon'.

In the interim, I'll be checking PP hourly.

That is a PP problem for sure. I too have had a couple of payments that I got no notice from PP. In fact about every other payment I'm not getting the notice.

Last summer, I wasn't getting any of the PP notices, so at least I'm getting SOME now.

I haven't had any problem with PayPal but have had a problem getting emails from ebay. Sometimes I have received the notice from PayPal and have gotten the item mailed before I even get a notice from Ebay that someone has bought the item. I have also lost an item I am bidding on because I don't get the email about being outbid until after the item has closed. I think it might be a problem with PayPal now that they are owned by Ebay. Everyone seems to be having a lot more problems with them now.
