DALLAS — Computer Crimes detectives in Dallas need help to find two people suspected of committing internet fraud, preying on eBay shoppers in North Dallas, Richardson, Plano and Denton.

The Dallas Police Department issued photos of two suspects involved in the scheme in the Dallas area. Both use false identities.

Investigators say victims respond to a bogus e-mail that appears to have come from eBay. Victims believe they are logging into eBay, but actually they're giving out their eBay login and password to strangers, usually in another country.

Detectives have seen e-mails originating in Taiwan, Malaysia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Russia.

The next time victims win a bid, they receive another bogus e-mail directing them to send payment through Western Union or MoneyGram to the fake eBay representative in Dallas.

The thieves take over legitimate eBay accounts of sellers, and actual owners are usually unaware the account is being misused.

EBay never endorses using Western Union or MoneyGram to send payments to sellers. it's a violation of eBay’s policy.

Detectives want to track down the real identities of the computer schemers in the photographs.
