SAN JOSE, Calif., March 23 Online U.S. payment service PayPal is working on a new payment method for mobile devices, a published report said Friday.
The new service, which PayPal expects to launch this the year, would let businesses offer a PayPal payment option to people who visit a version of their Web site built to be accessed by wireless handheld devices, The Wall Street Journal reported.
A person could visit the Web site for a pizza parlor or concert-ticket vendor using the Web browser on a cell phone or other mobile device like a BlackBerry, for instance, and make a payment using PayPal, the newspaper said.
The service is intended to appeal to young people and business people who use the Internet through cell phones, a PayPal spokeswoman said.
PayPal, owned by eBay Inc., launched a service last year that lets people send text messages to transfer money to each other.
