A Reno man said someone tried to scam him out of a couple of thousand dollars on eBay and he wants to warn others.

Donald Crawford said he has been selling items on eBay, an online auction site, for about

18 months. Last week he was selling Gateway notebook computers.

Someone bought a computer for $1,200 and sent him an authentic-looking check for $3,500.75 via overnight mail drawn on the name of a Houston company.

The instructions to Crawford: Cash the check, keep what's yours for the computer and shipping and wire the remaining money to an e-mail address.
