I never listed there either...
I'm just here for the funeral and to pay my last respect.

Here members are asking the St. Elsewhere's
if they will advertise etc.. and here is one site
who HAD IT ALL!!!

The money, the name and now it's gone!!
dang!! Guess they had better things to do.

Now what about the Yahoo Fourms on PSU??
Who will replace the yahoo main auction forum?
There going to have to move it after they are closed.

It's probably best to at least make a copy of your descriptions... They're saying we'll still have access for a while after they close the auctions, but who really knows what will happen?

Even with all of the frustration with Yahoo Auctions, I actually feel sad. The site had some traffic and I made money every month. I picked up new customers and the free advertising was great. The only other free site I’ve made money at is eCrater. Last month was my best month on eCrater, so hopefully the growth there will make up for Yahoo sales.
For now I plan to move everything to eCrater. I am not going to wait until June, I don’t want my final frustration with Yahoo to be a loss of listings due to one last glitch in May.
A lot of my listings on Yahoo are not backed up.

I know a few people did well on Yahoo, but most of us never did.

I was there for about a year when they charged for listings and only made 1 sale at that time. Then I let things lapse for quite a while. When they went back to free, I started back again and in the year + I made only 1 or 2 sales and a couple of NPBs.

So for all the hoopla, it won't be missed a whole lot by most of us. It sure COULD have been something if they would have only given it a bit of attention.

I guess I'm going to have to update my alt sites page again. Several sites gone or not behaving.

Carol

This would explain why I couldn't get registered, and they never bothered to respond to my requests to confirm my info.

Oh well.

Maybe the auction model is dying.

it is a real pisser, but I'm honestly not surprised. When things kept getting worse, and nothing was getting fixed, I began to think this might happen. I'm glad I went ahead and started my Ecrater store, only 500 more items to move in the next month!
I really don't understand it though...talking to hubby, he suggested that maybe Ebay bought the rights to their auction capabilities, just to eliminate the only real competition they had! Wouldn't really surprise me, they have a history of buying things out.

I never could get on to Yahoo without using my email address as my ID. I emailed Yahoo several times. Their Customer Service is nothing to brag about. It was much like Ebays. When Yahoo hid the auctions a while back, I suspicioned something was going on.

I am staying with eCrater and a maybe a few more. It will be interesting to see the big pictures/plans.

I haven't listed there in years but like most of you, I feel sad that its going. We need competition badly in this field and it seems we're just not getting it Sad

Yep.....could see that one coming a long time ago! (When you ask??? When they aligned themselves with Ebay to take on the threat of Google!)

ebay copied a lotta stuff from yahoo auctions. not sure they're better fer it...but yahoo auctions did keep em on their toes.
Crying or Very sad

i started as an individual seller on yahoo before they started charging fees. they started their long slow slide downhill when the fees came along...this is just the logical conclusion.
Confused

but i do think the auction model is dying...& i've seen several articles to that effect.

I really don't want to say I told you so............

Yahoo v Bidville????????

When the eBay/Yahoo! partnership really kicks in, I will offer all Yahoo! auction users who transfer their listings to Kaqoo, free LIFETIME membership, for ever, no strings attached, I will put 1 Million Dollars in their account to be used for the auction listings on Kaqoo. If they ever spend 1 Million Dollars, I will increase throughout their lifetime.

Let's face it, eBay/Yahoo! will show only eBay auctions.

Not transferable!!!!!!!!!!

Sellers who refused to, and some who never did, list at eBay. The closing of Yahoo Auctions is likely part of a backroom agreement.

That big top banner on eBay's category pages is served by Yahoo. Yahoo's business model is based on ad revenue, and eBay put serious coin in their pocket. Yahoo's auctions may have generated revenue, but it also created expenditures. On a balance sheet, if the income from eBay is identical or even a little less, the investment to create that revenue stream would be factored into the equation and may have weighted the decision to close.

In addition, I suspect eBay and Yahoo are closing ranks to try and slow Google's consumption of the web. Microsoft currently dominates, by a very slim margin, the unique audience share online. Google is second, and Yahoo is third. eBay runs in the top ten consistently. AOL ranked in the top 5, but since TimeWarner and AOL's merger, they seem to have been folded into the TW Brand and all but disappeared. For most of last year, the broadest audience share could be tapped between MSN and AOL. That's no longer true, and Google is swiflty closing the gap on MSN.

Ever heard the saying: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."? Yahoo doesn't want to be devoured by Google, and neither does eBay. They're defining their positions to save their identities in an effort to cooperatively gauntlet Google progression into their respective territories.

disclaimer: My personal opinion is derived from ongoing analysis of data from several sources with the addition of information compiled from collections of announcements/new stories during 2005/2006. This is an opinion, not to be misunderstood as an announcement by any corporation mentioned herein.

2nd edit to correct TW/AOL verbiage - thanks, AlterEgo!
