justgreat - I've got some active bids, and don't know if I'll get any more action or not.... Sad

It's been good 4 me too - I'm still 'recovering' from the announcement....but reacting! Very Happy

I have 80% of my listings removed. I only have one item with a bid, and it's starting to look like this will be my last item I sell on Yahoo Auctions. Sad

I still have 897 items 'live' - 3 bids....

I forgot about those that had closed, but not sold - so been moving them first, then started the live auctions. I've moved about 150 items so far - urgh..... Sad

I hear ya Teela - it's kind of sad - ya know? I enjoyed Yahoo auctions and I hate to see it go!!!

Im with you. Im going to let things expire, then move them. I think that will be easier to copy and paste.

What hurts me is all the great feedback I have, and then to top it off all my repeats. Its taken me years to get these wonderful people. Im letting them know but will they remember me? Beats me. Maybe Ill have to email them a few times. Crying or Very sad

justgreat....I just realized today that putting a message 'now' on the about me page would help folks know that we'll still be around, just not on Yahoo.

On my closed items since the announcement, I've been sharing where to find me. On my invoices too. And my shipping notices. Lastly, a mention on the feedback area too.

I plan to take a screenshot of the feedback, and put it someplace - perhaps on future about me pages. If you don't have the tools to do so, I'll happily do it and send it to ya (for your username).

It's a bummer, for sure - and somewhat overwhelming. Esp. since I have about 2,000 new items I'd rather be listing - Rolling Eyes Confused Cool !!

But - oh well .... I suppose this is one risk that we all face - IMO - even with ebaY...nothing is for certain forever - eh? Smile

RCFComputing said "Maybe the auction model is dying."

No, it's just a natural decline from the initial excitement peak to a long term smaller percentage of the retail market.

skillet said "yes.. the auction model is dead"

No, see above

xbaystores said "they are leaving it open for the counterfeit kings in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan? They already have a major stake in Chinese auctions, now they are shifting everything in their own auctions to only operate in the same region?"

You make it sound like they abandoned their entire US presence. They are simply keeping markets/sites open where they have a viable business. Should they maintain a failing US oriented site or profitable non-US sites that are succeeding? It's ridiculous idea that they have some agenda to abandon America. (Although I won’t dismiss completely the idea that the final blow wasn’t a backroom deal with ebay.)

I read an article years ago about why ebay isn’t/wasn’t in Japan and why Yahoo is/was. The reason for it was Yahoo has, and I expect they still do; have people operating those evil foreign sites who understand the market and cultures.

Ebay went in like a typical American Company into lots of non-western markets, throwing money around with no fundamental understanding of how those markets, or cultures work.

Of course why they couldn’t figure out the US market escape even me.

Yes, they lost alot, Ebay, in Japan. Off the sweat and work of their sellers. Throwing money around Ebay did. Skype too; thats questionable in my eyes.

Yahoo, to me had to make money from auctions. Because, People signing up, looking around, clicking to buy off the sites advertising on the side, looking up on Yahoo and clicking back in. I can't belive they didn't have extra help to fix a few bugs once for us. They sure the heck threw up that working sign in yellow: we are retiring, super fast. Got someone to fix that.

Still mad, sorry folks.

I think the future of Internet commerce will resemble the modern shipping center.

1: Anchor sites like Amazon or Overstock to draws customers in and lots of little sub-stores ride their tails, like a big Wal-Mart with a dry cleaner, pizza shop, video store, etc.)

2: Specialty malls for similar businesses, i.e. outlets, antiques, hobby supplies, etc, just like the real world antique malls and outlet malls.

3: Web based malls for local businesses to promote themselves regionally. Nobody has really done this yet. Lots of folks shop online but buy locally, why not shop locally online?

4: The ebay format in some less auction focused form.

5: Occasional freestanding web stores for bigger stronger stores.

I like the format of mainstreetmall.com, even if the site doesn’t fit my needs.

CuFF - what are your thoughts about blujay? Rory have you checked out www.blujay.com? Free listings, no fees whatsoever, a very friendly site growing every day. They feed to Google and Froogle with daily updates.

Like with any change behind the change are REASONS..... why the auction format is dead ... 2 reasons.... one is that the NEW has wore off... the 2nd is the matter of time... speed has always been valuable but NOW alot more so with people NOT having so much time to waste anymore.. TIME NOW is extremely important. few wants to spend time thinking and wondering all week if they are gonna be able to buy and item then they have to return again. PEOPLE wants to buy it when they see it and complete it. auction format is dead!

I've never checked blujay out thoroughly. I may if eCrater doesn't work for me.

Yahoo lost interest in auctions years ago, about the time they shut down Yahoo PayDirect. They let things deteriorate after discovering that Sellers didn't want to pay listing fee's. I paid them for a while, but as I said before, the pickings got slim for Buyers because everyone flew the coop and the selection of items was no longer there. The Sellers who tried to stick it out had no other choice but to leave eventually. They'd have been better off with a FVF structure, then they could have added listing fee's later, but at the time I didn't blame Yahoo. I blamed the Sellers who wanted something for nothing. My business at Yahoo was still robust months after they started charging the fee's. If people had been willing to pay a small listing fee the site would have continued to thrive. It should be a lesson to us all. The listing fee was meager compared to what ebay was charging, as I recall it.

I'm curious what the outcome will be.

I assume that it was a business decision. They were probably at the end of profitability if they had any to begin with. You can only remain unprofitable (and even less profitable than other endeavors) before you are on the chopping block. Yahoo is now fighting for survivability so probably had to jettison a few losing departments.
