PostPosted: Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:43 pm   Post subject:  CSS template help #1  Back to top

So, Hi, I have this template (see my temp URL: www.powersellersunite.com/~autumnsg/).

Pretty, huh?! And it fits in quite nicely with my theme!! A little pricey, I mean only 10$ every 3 months, but anyway. I just need to put my business name in there, in a couple of places.

The first place, the one I am really stuggling with finding, is how to edit the far top left? The text under the picture/logo. I want to keep that white & red leaf picture & just have 'Autumn's Garden' (maybe even a sub-title, if I can figure this out) written underneath. Right where, & instead of, 'Ornate
by free css templates' is written currently.

My trouble is, when I open any of the html/css editors in my PSU store's administrator's panel (there's a few options for editing my template, like JoomlaXplorer ect...) the code is completely alien!!!! I've never seen css like this! I've read countless manuals & directions about this, & I think, because my template is from a different site, that the directions that the knowlege base has articles on & other member's posts here doesn't really completely apply. I can see some things as instructed, but not everything.

I can't even find this kind of css on a css/html link that PSUnite provided.

I know css pretty well, actually, I altered & perfected (to my little heart's desire.... A heavy Scorpio/Virgo natal chart is like, perfectionist hell) several great templates on eBay ( back in my Store days ~ www.autumnsgarden.com). But the only time I can find any sensible css on this current template, is when I go to my current, in progress home page (temp. URL given way above, at top of post), & go to 'view source code' in my firefox browser. Everything else, when I go into try to edit it, is totally alien & I really need help working with it, to actually be able to edit, just a little, in the website's back end editors.... I guess. Please, please please pleeeease help me...I wish there was a groveling smiley.

ANyway, does that 'question' even make sense!!? I think someone needs to look at my code for me! Will someone please help? I wouldn't mind copying & pasting template design stuff here, as long as it doesn't compromise my security?! I might be able illustrate what I'm talking about better! I just have a very few design adjustments (like just business name..lol) & I just can't really find the right place in my code to do these.

Actually I'm feeling so gratefull & joyful getting to put in some daily hours on my website!! I really feel like I'm finally moving forward easily. I can probably even start listing my products, while I'm waiting for an answer to this!

Thanks So Much!
Autumn

Autumn - I know nothing about CSS - But...would help ya if I could/knew!

If you don't get a response via the forum in short order, send a Private Message to PSU Admin - perhaps he can either help ya or point ya to a store owner able to do so!

BUMP for HELP!

Autumn....I've never worked with a Joomla store, but as a wild guess I would assume the Name/Tag line part would need to be changed in one of your language files not the CSS stylesheet.

At least that's how it works on my ZenCart. Mr. Green

Try looking for a file called something similiar to:

includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME/header.php

or

includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE_NAME/english.php

Like I said, those are the paths/files in a ZenCart, so it may not be the exact same for your cart, but at least maybe that will give you a general location to look in.

I may be all wrong about this, but the part you are looking to change looks like it MAY be an image. Look to see if there is a jpg or gif somewhere in that area.

Thanks PSUnite!

Yes, the Knowledge Base was one of the first places I looked! I followed that page step by step a few times and learned a lot! Thanks for creating all that. There are other manuals and such around, but nothing quite applies to this one little problem I'm having.

I really am putting time in on this, & reading everything I should be, not just coming here first. Even searching the internet first, before I post here. I probably should do forum searches too, so I don't ask redundant questions. Although I have read tons of stuff on here (I've seen you give out these helpful links to others, PSUnite, before you gave them to me).

SO, I can find my logo image all over the place (the red leaves on white, which I want to keep), but I can't find that one little snippet of code or image or whatever it is, in order to change the text underneath it! The main business name display in the top left! It's not attached to the actual logo image, or the background, or on it's own in any of my folders (that I can see).

I've been in there looking over stuff, according to the suggestions above & also continuing my exploration. Thanks All! I did find all the images on the left hand navigation. So at least now I also know what images are what, in the template code! That's exciting!

I realized on eBay, I definitely used css, but it was mixed with a little html. I had sooo much fun with that stuff. Here it seems to be pure css & I'll have to go read about it some more!

BUT actually the only one thing I need to do on the design, like I was saying, is change that text under the logo to my business name. Then the template itself is ready! So yeah, could someone help me find that?! Either in the code or in a file or what have we?

Anyway however long that takes itself to work out, I'll be getting started on writing some content pages & categories! Yes! Everything else on my admin panel looks easy & thrilling!

I do have a job, so slow & steady works out for me. Although I'd love to have this go live around the end of the month (& it looks like actually setting up & stocking this store will be fast & fun).

Thanks,
Autumn

Actually I think the reason you can't find the text to change it is because they don't want you to change THAT. It's the name of the site that wrote the CSS template. They want that "credit" there. The way it looks to me is you are supposed to change out the leafy graphic to your own logo.

I know that isn't what you wanted, but ??

So I found a forum on the site I got the template from! And got an answer:

"You can change this text by make new module and put it into "advert1" position.

Fill in any text and it will replace the exist text."

Now I have to go find out what a module is & find the 'advert 1 position'!?

Just to let you know how all that was going.

Thanks,
Autumn

Not real familiar with the PSU stores (so take this for what it's worth), but it definately is just plain text that should be easy to edit. You should not have to create a new module or anything, just find the current page and edit it. And most likely won't find it in a CSS, probably in the language or header files (if that's part of their structure) as someone else mentioned. I would be happy to go in look around and edit for you (well, try anyway..), but having no real history here can't just trust anyone Wink Good luck,

Mike

YaKnow!

Thanks for for the reply! Actually, Ya Know, I would think it would be easy to just go in and change some text too, but it seems with this, I do have to make a new module. It's a whole new learning experience for me anyway! I figured it partly out, & I got rid of the advertisement.

Thanks for the offer, I might need to take you up on it if I can't figure out how to get my files unlocked (my next mystery)....There's not, like, a whole lot of security to be comprimised...lol!

Its the same css you would use for ebay. The css you where using is inline css which is in the html file. We use stylesheets which is just css on a separate file.

To make a new module goto the menu modules->site modules click on the new button on the top right, change the position to advert1 and then add your text to the content box.

To unlock your files see http://www.powersellersunite.com/viewtopic.php?t=8200 that post is actually a sticky in the PSU stores forum.
