Considering you can't post one on topic message in this thread, and I keep trying to get it back to topic... I'd say that pretty much sums up troll. Someone asked for advice. I gave it. You jumped in with something that meant absolutely nothing to the OP's questions, and I am the troll for defending my advice. |

For the OP: see post #4 here
http://www.powersellersunite.com/viewtopic.php?t=20138&highlight=
specifically:
Quote: › If I may suggest, decide what it is you want first. Yes, time is money and you're losing it in more ways than one.
If you want to stay on eBay while the sales are good, fine. But check the other sites you're listing on and dump the ones you don't like. Use a sensible business criteria for deciding which ones to drop. Which ones are showing some traffic? Which ones are submitting to Google? Which ones have RSS feeds you can use to promote with?
elgato is correct as well, what are YOU doing to let people know that you're on the alternatives?
Nope, not all of them "get it," so lose the ones that don't. If they aren't marketing and promoting themselves outside of their own site, I don't have time to do it for them. But if they are making the effort, then I will make some effort too. |
The best advice you got here was xbaystores (#9) and LurkeyLou (#19). Build your OWN site first. It's your business, take care of yourself first.
The MOST IMPORTANT thing you should NOT listen to, is people telling you to list at a specific site because THEY had some success there and/or because they like it. This is your business and you need to know where YOU may have success, not someone else.
Second most important, don't fall for all the auction site owners' invitations to "come try them out." That's an invitation to waste your time. Look at their sites & compare them to others. But don't go wasting your time on sites that don't have what you need.
Hope this helps,
sylvia |

Exactly Sylvia. No one can control your own destiny but you. There is no point in spending unlimited hours on an auction site that will get you 10 sales a month if you are lucky, then can shut down you and every other seller there overnight. That only happens when you invest in someone else's business. When you invest in yourself, only you pull the strings and decide where your business will go. |

Whatever site you end up at, make sure you stand behind your product and actually deliver a product that has been purchased.
Don't be like KoreVideo or Movie Addict, or whatever it's calling itself today, finding yourself banned from multitudes of selling venues for exactly that, then spew hate filled propagandistic drivel about those who have 'wronged' you, as has been done by some already in this thread. |

LurkeyLou wrote ( View Post): › hylton, if you depend on your eBay income at all, you'll want to continue selling there while you create an exit strategy to establish yourself independent of eBay.
I don't recommend starting with finding "the best" auction site beyond eBay. I recommend setting up a store for yourself as a first step. PSU offers an inexpensive option for the intermediate to advanced tech type. BuyItSellIt.com offers a free option for the non-tech type. Yahoo offers stores, not the easiest to set up but millions use them. ZenCart and OSCommerce are free for the more advanced tech type.
Once you get set up I recommend using "alternative" venues for additional M&P. The reason is you're going to work 10X harder for 1/10th of the sales (if you're lucky) you got on eBay with the "alternative" venues. The "alternative" venues do little to no advertising, traffic is much lower than eBay.
Folks will tell you this venue or that venue is better for this reason or that reason but the majority seem to have between a 1% and 3% sell through rate. Essentially, if all the sales for the entire venue were counted most would not qualify as a Silver Powerseller on eBay. There are exceptions but nothing consistent, a big ticket item here and there might make the numbers look better for a month but the stats are a bumpy ride at best.
The alternative to eBay on an income replacing level doesn't exist unless you're willing to do the work that the fees you pay to eBay pay for, the marketing and promotions (M&P) - getting buyers to your goods. If you're willing to do the work, then I recommend investing in yourself first and then using the "alternative" venues as a means to increase your own M&P.
If you start by using venues first, you're going to invest a lot of time trying to make as many sales as most sellers make by accident on eBay...your own store will be hard going, too, but you won't be at the mercy of anyone elses changing business plan or some owner pulling the plug in the middle of the night without warning. |
I missed this post, can I copy and and post it, with credit of course, every time somebody ask for the best alternative site is? Its spot on.

Was it truly a slap by goggle or just BJ not being able to get their crap in order and feed google properly.
When I sold there google feeds were virtually non-existent and the site owners seemed absentee at best.

I for one applaud Mo ( www.alsoshop.com) for taking the high ground and refusing to stoop to the level of those who opt to spew such ludicrous hate filled propagandistic drivel (Which you laughably tout as fact). |

BTW... what happened to helping this person find an alternative to eBay? HOW did it go from that topic to defending Mo, or any other Site Owner?? Can we get back to the point here please... |

hello, i can give you my opions too,
i tried ebid, not so good for me. i sell used books
ioffer, i have sold about 10 things is 4months. but their fvf is pretty high. the search engine is a little difficult, free listings though.
NEOLOCH.com is my favorite and my new home. easy to use, there are options for auctions or buy it now, and free stores. fvf is pretty good too. |

I just found GoAntiques and it pushes it's listings onto oodle for more exposure.Oodle is kind of new..but cute, it's classified like craigs.
Go antiques has a collectibles and vintage section to sell on as well as estate stuff that's fairly newish but quality? That's what I've gathered, I just joined there and still trying to learn how to list there.
I just joined Bonanzle too, and I see it is very nice as well! I will have to figure out how to list there, etc , take more photos for both places, start writing up listings, you know, the "work" part of listing!LOL!
I'm registered at a bunch of places that I could sell at already, but none have inspired me to get going yet..well..we're all in the same boat, and the best places may be different for each person, and may be different for each venue you sell on. I could see selling one type of thing at one place and another type of thing at another.
Someone needs to design an auction site sellers' coordinator, online!LOL! |
