I test listed an item about four hours ago and signed up for Google checkout at the same time. I still cannot find my item when I search for it. Tons of others come up (mostly Ebay - BLEH!) but not mine.

It said it would take up to 60 minutes to be searchable. Any ideas?

Are you referring to Google product search (shopping) or the regular Google search? When I upload products at Google Base it can take as long as an hour for them to appear in Google Shopping. But in the regular Google search, who knows? It can take days for an item to show up.

I tried both. It's not in either one even though it states that it's "searchable".

I've wondered the same.

I've got about 120 items listed on google base. When I search for them, maybe about half of them will come up in google products. Why not all?

When I search on www . google . com/base (without the spaces) and put in my search word, they all come up very near the top of the search. But, how many buyers go to that website? I don't understand why there are the two entities... base and products.

Also, I've already gone one round of resubmitting each item after the 30 day period and am nearing the second round. So, I've had my 120 items listed for almost two months. I have not had one sale. I don't know what I'm doing wrong because there have been a few posts here about how wonderful the sales are through google base.

I think it must be something new. I used to list on Google shopping now and then and my items always came up right on top almost right away. Something's going on with Google. I'm not wasting any more time with it - why bother listing products if they don't show up.
Conversely, I can find many of my very old store items from Ecrater and Blujay right there in Google searches but not the newer ones from the past couple of months.

Hello suburbantreasure,

I think you hit it right on the head... Something is up with Google... We had over 100,000 items listed on Google Base... and then one lovely day... Gone!

Google started to change their listing policies faster that ebay's fee increases. Yes, Google and eBay are working together to get rid of smaller alternative online auction sites... They dumped our sellers items, because of "Drop Shippers"... I'm not sure what's up with that...

Well, Good Luck getting your items listed... just make sure you are not a drop shipper....

I'm copying my question that was posted to the Google basics board on google.com. Here is the answer. Still doesn't answer my question as to WHY my item is NOT THERE!
----------------------------------------------------
I posted a test item - I'm new to Google base. Signed up for Google
checkout today, etc. Put one item it - the status is now listed and
"searchable" when I view my items. But I've tried both GOogle
shopping and regular Google search and I can't find it at alll. All
I'm pulling up is people's Ebay stuff.
My item is a Fisher Price Little People hospital and it's $65. My
store is on Ecrater.

Any ideas? It told me it would take an hour to list, but it's been
five hours and we can't find it.

Items listed using the online form are not currently pushed to Google
Product Search, to do this you need to submit a data feed.

Then what's the purpose of adding the items one by one? It states
that it's published and searchable but it's really not?

This is all new to me - sorry for the questions!

It will be published and searchable on Google Base but not Google
Product Search.

I don't get it either. I don't list one at a time on Google Base so I can't troubleshoot for you. However, because you have an Ecrater store, it will automatically be uploaded for you. Why not just put this item in your Ecrater store?

I checked your other Fisher Price Little People toys on Ecrater, and they all show up in Google Shopping.

Ecrater and blujay do both feed to Google, however many people are saying their stuff isn't showing, possibly a problem with the feed. "some" of my stuff is there, but much is not. I loaded many antique half dolls onto my blujay store and none of that is showing at all, in any of the products pages. NONE Of my blujay stuff shows up at all and everyone is saying the same thing - some people had hundreds of listings go poof overnight.

Yup, nothing in products for 'USIFF' and the only 'USIFF' in Google Base is a t-shirt listed on cafepress (which does NOT show up in Products).

Can you elaborate? I really would like to understand. Are you saying that Google doesn't want items that are sold by sellers who use drop shippers? Or that drop shippers complained? I am confused.

This is VERY disturbing to me. I was already bugged by the Custom Search deliberately leaving out a large percentage of webpages that would match a search, but now to hear that Google, that could be the savior of the independent seller, appears to be the devil instead.... Very disturbing and frustrating.

Hello purple_reading_giraffe,

Can you elaborate? I really would like to understand. Are you saying that Google doesn't want items that are sold by sellers who use drop shippers? Or that drop shippers complained? I am confused.

This is VERY disturbing to me.

Confused? You should of seen me... We spent thousand of hours working to ensure our sellers items were getting listed into Google Base and Froogle.

The bottom line, Google changed the listing policy to (I don't know when this change went into effect) ;

Posting is not permitted for the promotion of affiliate sites, products sold through a commission-based relationship, or sites that sell through cataloged third-party drop-shipping programs.

Most of our sellers are "Drop-Shippers". Since we had items that didn't follow the Google Base Program Policies. We were removed.

And the way we found out is, our system would send us an email every time we updated our items into Google. Our system sent us an "error email", so I jumped over to Google... and then we found out that our feeds were no longer active? After a number of attempts to contact Google "Base", they sent me the new Google Base Program Policies. It's a totally joke.

Google doesn't want items that are sold by sellers who use drop shippers? Well, that's what is sounds like to me...

I don't know of anyone complaining.. but who knows.. Google likes to leave you in the dark when these sort of things happen.

And yes, "This is VERY disturbing to me too". What's going to be more disturbing is, when you do a search on Google Base and the only items that show up are from eBay sellers.

We all need to work together to beat Google and eBay (GeBay).

Take Care,

Rene

Rene, I think there must be some confusion. I know that Google base was cleaning out listings over the late summer and it seems that the worst hit, or most listings dropped were auction sites and perhaps Blujay may have been caught up in that fray. The part about Blujay is pure speculation on my part, though.

I know that many, many listings were dropped for violations of google base's terms. It may be prudent to ask specifically what caused your listings to be dropped.

Their support has always been helpful & responsive to me and others I know.

Another problem I can think of is that auction sites allow too many sellers of SMC products, therefore the same items are being submitted. And of course, SMC is a drop shipper. Honestly, I don't know if that's a problem, but I'm curious. There are other drop shipping companies that are a bit over-used as well, so it isn't just SMC.

hope this helps,
sylvia

I can sort of see the thinking, maybe. Too many different dropshippers of ultimately the same items, I guess, leading to too many "exactly the same" items?

However, does this mean they will remove only the dropshipped items? Apparently not if we use you as an example - I am assuming your site has items that are not dropshipped.

It seems to me that most venues contain both dropship and inventory sellers. So if they are removing everything from sites that have dropshippers using the venue, does that mean they will remove all eBay and Amazon listings? Doesn't Amazon drop-ship (fulfillment) for some of their sellers, or is that different? Aren't many of the marketplace sellers dropshippers? (I have no idea actually.)

I know that many large eBay sellers are dropshippers. Maybe you are a victim in an anti-eBay move?? Maybe they will allow you to upload non-dropshipped items?

Does make me wonder how folks can find a good deal on these items, though, once they are all removed. I have often wondered why there are drop-ship companies. Why don't they just sell it direct? You can see I'm ignorant of a lot.

If this is used as an "excuse" to remove the alternative venues from Google Products, that will be very bad for the shopper looking for something more than Sears and Walmart, in my opinion, and I will not be a happy camper. However, I really have no idea what I can do about it... Start an online petition?

Are you aware of any other sites affected? Do you suppose someone complained? I am wondering if I should start checking... Maybe some other alt owners are having problems and will speak up. Thanks for telling us more about it Rene - I say brave of you.

AS submits daily to products and base, and usually shows in a relative short period of time. But very few of our members use drop ship.
