Hi everybody,

I've to thank you for so many interesting posts I've read here.

Now I have my ideas clearer.

Looking for the "quasi-perfect" (I know the perfect one does not exists) auction script, and after so many read posts, I have two candidates:

phpprobid vs phpauction

phpauction looks a bit different since the beginning, and it has a few good points like own stores, adsense integration, many languages from origin,...

phpprobid is perhaps more tested, it has many mods,....

which one would you take? The main goal is to have something stable, with only "buy now" option, with languages or no problems to translate them, and it would be great to have own stores and the chance to give the chance to choose the shipping countries of the products.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi PatchDog,
thanks for your quick answer, and for so many helpful answers you wrote.

It's a very good question, I still didn't find any site who recognize to use it. I can only say they have a really quick and nice support service (at least the pre-sales one Very Happy).

Let's see if someone is using it already.

I found a few not very successful sites:

http://www.ghostbids.com/
http://www.aquaticbay.co.uk/
http://www.allestekoop.com/ <- this one is coool
http://www.swapal.com/

I suppose there will be also sites with much more traffic Smile but I'd buy it happier if I know someone from here uses it

those sites dont look too bad but they are like many other sites on the web....just not much going on for them at the moment.....the competition for generic sell everything sites is tough...

I'm looking at the future of my own site and it is getting bigger...I should be over 200 members and 10,000 listings by the end of the month....the site is "functional" for where it is right now but I am also getting more sellers and more listings...I could probably have double the amount of listings than I do right now if I had a bulk uploader or bulk importer from eBay.....combined invoicing and automatic combined shipping are also features which would benefit the site....the problem is that the quotes I have gotten for these features are way too much for me.....I am at a crossroads with the site.....I can keep on going with it the way that it is and have limited success or figure out an inexpensive way to to upgrade the existing site or import the existing data to a site that already has these features in place.....I dont even know if what I am looking for is possible.....

Been lurking here a while but haven't posted until now...

I'm in the process of doing a niche site right now and I went with ProBid because of the amount of mods already available, plus the support is really good (from both fellow users and the phpProbid themselves). Obviously the drawback is the amount of sites already running the script kind of makes it hard to stand out. I do have a designer and a web developer at my disposal, which is a godsend. If you don't, I strongly suggest finding at least a developer, as plugging in your logo and calling it good is a ticket to instant failure.

If you're considering a catch-all site (and you're serious), and want to stand out from the rest, a professional site developed from scratch would be the best way at this point.

The Probid is more popular and everyone is installing it. Lots of "cookie cutter" sites on the web right now until owners get the sites skinned.

Probid would offer better support because they are more popular and trusted.

I'm not to up on the "Beta" yet but Probids new script is supposed to be Beta which means less errors and problems. It runs faster due to less information needed in the script.

All the sites eventually will move to the Beta language script so have you wallet ready to put out some money on skins cause they will all look alike.

Thanks for all your answers and opinions.

Perhaps you are right, and probid ist the most "usual" one.

How much could cost to customize a template? (I suppose I shouldn't need to reprogram anything, knowing it is stable and it has so many addons)

phpauction has been open source since its inception, until some fella, who rarely makes an appearance when it comes to support, decided he was going to resell it. It is full of bugs, security issues, and is found broken more often than repaired. Your better off staying away from it.

PHPProbid has been around for years, offers support, features, and functionality that is second to none, is easily modifiable, and unlike the post mentions above, is not 'Beta'.

There are a multitude of individuals who offer customizable skins, and many of us offer custom modifications to further enchance it, based on your needs and requirements.

If you go to the Probid site and surf the pages you will find the priceing info. I think it's $220 for the script, $750 for the skin and $145 for the logo.

It's worth it if you don't want to look like all the other sites.

I know of one site that went with the new Probid script and it is Beta. I looked on the Probid site and didn't see anything that says it was Beta. I'm still reseaching this Beta thing but have already read It's a different computer language and much faster with less errors. I have seen some sites advertising their new beta sites. I am still reseaching this also and am really unclear about all this Beta I'm seeing right now.

Nobody told me this. I have been reading it on trusted websites.

I still don't know enough to say true or false but I am looking into it.

The real question is can data be affordably be transferred over from an rscript site to a phpauction or probid site?

Yes it can, and cost is dependant upon the volume of data, and what specifically, should be captured. If you would like to discuss converting from one to the other, feel free to contact me directly.
