If any perspective site owners are listening, here is what I think could be successful...more so than a lot of sites I have seen....a site like this requires planning, organization, coordination and teamwork....it would have to be flexible and expandable.

It would would start with a single site. For the sake of this post let's call it
DreamCommerceSite.com if it is based in the USA.....it would be in US currency and the categories would be based on US preferences....

It would be a storefront sell everything site selling what people usually sell in a Buy It Now format...unfortunately, an auction site just cant compete with eBay.....

Now we have lots of these kind of sites right now...what would be different about this site? Expansion and flexibility.....

Niche auction sites can be tied to this site with a common software, a common search function, common registration, common forums, etc...if someone registeres for one site, they register for all of the site....

The niche sites that can be tied to the site have to be planned in advance.

Say that the following niche auction sites are predetermined

Sports Memorabilia
Antique Jewelry
Antiques
Comic Books and related material such as trading/game cards.
Odds and Sods (smaller collectibles under 4 ounces such as keychains, pez dispensers, pens, etc)
Coins & Stamps
Patches (near to my heart)
Handmade Craft Items (like Etsy)
Vintage Clothing
Militaria

These niche sites can be independently owned and yet still interface with DreamCommerceSite.com. They can be existing sites which can be imported to software compatible to DreamCommerceSite.com or they can be new start up sites with licenses awarded by DreamCommerceSite.com. DreamCommerceSite.com can charge a percentage (say 20 percent of the profits) for the software services and maintenance. They key is that the sites all have distinct categories of material and there should be no overlap in what is listed at the sites. This will eliminate "competition" and hard feelings between the sites.

Site owners will have the responsibility of policing their sites to make sure that the items listed on the site fall within the niche...any items that do not fall within the niche site will have to be listed on the main DreamCommerceSite.com site or one of the other niche sites if they meet the criteria.

OK, so now we have a main commerce site interfacing with 8-10 niche sites......but it is based in the USA...geared towards US sellers...other sellers from other countries can use the site but what about their local market...

It's time to expand even more...DreamCommerceSite.uk, DreamCommerceSite.fr, DreamCommerceSite.de, DreamCommerceSite.it, DreamCommerceSite.sa, DreamCommerceSite.au, etc....

Each site will be specifically set up for each country using local categories, the local language and local currency and owned by local site owners. The interface would still work with DreamCommerceSite.com in terms of forums, search, registration, etc.....the sites can be started from scratch or they can be converted from existing local auction sites...the format and the principle would still be the same as DreamCommerceSite.com.

Kaqoo has an idea along these lines but lack of planning and coordination have allowed 100 cookie cutter sites to just compete with each other....they all sell the time types of items from the same countries.

If Kaqoo had a business plan which limited the types of sites and sites per country they would be well placed to start up DreamCommerceSite.com.

How about it.....does any site have the software and capabilty to make a network of peacefully co-existing sites like DreamCommerceSite.com possible?

Sounds like an awesome site Patch. By the time someone takes something like this to a realtime level, feebay could be their 1st affiliate under the, Only Items from China, category. Smile

PatchDog,

it sounds really great!

I suppose It could be a modification of phpprobid, for example, which could read from multiple databases and attach all in one. Anyway the casuistry could get much more difficult.

I'll think about it, but I'd be open to fight with the spanish market Smile

Patch- In a nutshell, you have just described Worldbookmarket.com for booksellers. The concept is to have all sites independently run by the owner's, tied together at one main site and offering proprietary software to help the dealers upload to various sites without difficulty.

I have thought all along that once WBM is really up and rolling, it would be great to have them tied into such a super-site. Unfortunately, I doubt you will get far with this idea. But maybe I'm being too pessimistic.

Bill, WBM is an excellent site. I recently went there looking for a book written by a family member that has been out of print since the 20s. I didn't locate it, but found several others I had been looking for.

Nora- I'll send along your compliments, I wish I had something to do with how great the site is, but I don't. I'm just a member. Anyway, what book is it? I sort of specialize in odd, hard-to-find books written by family members.

One thing about WBM, we don't have the 'mega-listers' who wouldn't know a book if it bit them in the butt. Their listings always say something like 'may have marks or highlights, may have library markings.' They could be selling fertilizer or mufflers, it wouldn't matter to them.

I had to look this up; Wikipedia.

Quote: › Casuistry (pronounced /ˈkęʒuːɨstri/) is an applied ethics term referring to case-based reasoning. Casuistry is used in juridical and ethical discussions of law and ethics, and often is a critique of principle-based reasoning[1].

Critics use the term pejoratively for the use of clever but unsound reasoning, especially in relation to moral questions (see Sophistry). Casuistry is reasoning used to resolve moral problems by applying theoretical rules to particular instances.

I still don't understand it!

Quote: › could read from multiple databases and attach all in one

Not really; it exposes the central database to security issues which are impossible to control as you are drawing the information from who knows where. The data needs to be filtered, encrypted and verified before any database entries.

Sorry if this is too technical.

Bill,
It is MIZPAH: A FAMILY BOOK INCLUDING "A FAMILY SKETCH AND ELSE OR BUFORD'S BRIDGE AND ITS PEOPLE" BY REV. M. M. BRABHAM, 1923 by A. McKay Brabham.
Bamberg, S. C. :: The Mizpah Family Book Committee, 1978. Hardcover. Gilt-decorated green cloth cover. 302 pages with index. Includes map of Bufords Bridge Community in Bamberg County, SC; reprint of "A Family Sketch, and Else" by M. M. Brabham (originally published in 1923).

I had found it on Amazon, but it was priced $165., which I thought a bit pricey for the condition.

Thanks much! Your help would be greatly appreciated.

To me, this sounds an awful lot like what Wagglepop is working on. They announced this idea three months ago.

It sounds like Kaqoo who announced it 3 years ago.
