I wrote last week about why Yahoo, probably the only name that can blow Evil Bay out of the water, has such a weakling auction site (I've listed 115 fairly pricey fine art items recently and have exactly one bid so far, for $8, on a cigarette lighter!). This post must have struck a nerve as there were 500 or 600 hits. Now I can't find it. Was it pulled? Strange. Scary, sort of like Evil Bay. By the way, many of the well illustrated, well described items on there have exactly ZERO hits after 8 days. WHY, WHY, can't yahoo beat the stuffing out of Evil Bay? It is obvious, it's right in front of our eyes, so obvious that perhaps we're not seeing it, looking instead at overstock, blujay, fleavenders, etc., while yahoo moulders, unused. Surely someone in charge of the auctions at yahoo needs to be fired. I've rarely seen such mismanagement. Sadly, their customer support in my experience so far is EXCELLENT! I've received prompt and professional replies to all emailed questions sent them. As Rodney King said, "Can't we all get along and {unite behind yahoo} so that Evil Bay can be blown out of the water? |

YAHOO will not be the one to knock ebay over.
ioffer will.
to become a major force, you have to be dedicated, and committed.
yahoo is neither when it comes to the auctions.
it is a ways down on their priority list. their email, and web hosting are their main priorities.
the auction site is there merely to be a thorn in ebay's side. it is supported by the banner ads and such.
i urge you to look at ioffer, and view an earlier post on why ioffer will be the one to upset ebay.
here is that post which was in answer to a question i recieved about auction site preference.:
*******************************************************
as i have stated in earlier posts, i have viewed, and fairly thoroughly checked out nearly all of them.
i found most of them difficult to navigate, and filled with banners and pop ups. bidville, and ioffer were the exceptions.
also, many of them had very few items listed, and no, or next to no bids.
i initially listed on bidville. they had the second largest number of items listed, a clean, and easy to list and navigate site, and they were free, (only a minimal final value fee... if sold), and unlimited free re-lists on unsold listings. this meant a lot less work. at the time i listed with them, they were getting traffic, and i did make some sales.
shortly thereafter, they got into trouble (discussed elsewhere on this site) and now it definitely appears as if they will soon be history. sad, as they are a well put together site. no views, no sales. i am done with that site. time is money, and i don't have time to put gas into a car with a blown engine... if you catch my drift.
i moved to i0ffer, which is third. i am happy there. super fast response from customer service. they encourage input and suggestions. easy to use ONE PAGE listing form, and this really impresses me. 99% of the time, i can find my items through any search engine (i use dogpile) with in 24 hours. that is really fast. they get the items into public findability faster than any site i have seen.
Also, items $4.99 and less are FREE to list, and have NO sales commission!
i am getting MANY hits (views), am making many sales, this sunday alone, i did $450. on the sale of 3 items.
they have a very secure seller / buyer contact system. it is spam-proof.
no banners. no pop ups. automatic invoicing. free to list ( cheap final value fees), easy to use picture system, and on and on. i have nothing bad to say about ioffer.
in my opinion, ioffer is the site of the future. they do it right, make it easy, and get traffic. no one else is doing it as well as ioffer.
people keep raving about yahoo, but they have such a jumbled site, too many banners, and the auctions are not their priority. they are a sideline.
if i am going to invest time...which = money... into someone elses control, i want to make sure the project i am putting it into is THEIR number one priority, as it certainly is mine. i do this as a business, not a hobby, not for fun, not for relaxation. if i don't work, i don't eat. if the auction site doesn't work, i don't eat. if the auction site doesn't work, they don't eat. it is very simple. it is common sense, and business logic.
go where the traffic is. go where the money is. if you were giving solid gold cadillacs away for free, but you were doing it 32 miles from nowhere, and no one knew about it, how many would you give away?
when choosing an auction site, remember the 3 most important rules of real estate: location, location, and location.
ioffer is currently 3rd in the ratings, as shown on the "auction count" which is available on this site. once bidville rolls snake eyes, ioffer will be in the number 2 position. as ebay crumbles, which it will in time, a no one likes paying for steak and getting balogna, i feel ioffer will become the the major contender.
i hope this helps, and answers your question. |

Ioffer is not an auction site. This is the one thing I have against it. I like using auction sites to list my items. For me I have found Ioffer very diffacult to use. |
