With so many auction sites how do you ever pick one to use.
I sell collectibles, mostly, one of kind type of thing. Ebay, even without all of the changes is just getting too costly to list anymore. My items don't always sell right away so I can't continue to keep listing on Ebay, it ends up costing me more than I can make on the item.
I have registered on at least 7 different sites. I tried selling a couple things on ebid with no luck.
With the holiday season right around the corner would be nice to tap into a site where I can sell a few items.
I am on disability so having a little extra money this time of year is much appreciated. |

Hi, ladywas! OOAK is what many of us miss about eBay. I understand they have lowered the insertion fees and have a new 30 day core listing available. I also saw they raised the FVFs again. However, if you re-do the math with the new options, you might find that eBay can keep working for YOU a while longer.
In the meantime, I would suggest, whether or not you got a lifetime membership at eBid.net, you go ahead and list the rest of your items as it doesn't cost anything until they sell. The main difference is with membership you get a gallery photo and 2% FVF instead of 3%. You can pay .05 at listing for a gallery photo if you don't have the membership. They have also, historically, credited any membership fees already paid for lower levels toward higher levels if one chooses to upgrade.
AtomicMall and Bonanzle are drawing more than the usual traffic that most alternatives receive and a lot of people seem very happy with them right now and are making sales. Free stores available at eCrater, BluJay, and BuyItSellIt work well for many (if I were a seller I would start with BISI just because its features appeal to me more, eCrater is currently the largest, BluJay is having a few glitches, but is well-loved for its ease of use).
Collectibles may do well at SpecialistAuctions and Etsy, there are higher cost choices like TIAS and RubyLane that seem to have a good history of exposure and sales. CollectorsOnlineMall is offering a 3 month trial and was started by PA-Antiques of PSU fame, so I suspect she has a good idea what she's doing. Bonanzle has just decided to brand itself for "Everything But The Ordinary".
If you have registered on several sites, you probably know how large the choices can be. There are many other decent choices available. Do know, however, if you don't list buyers can't find IT. I would look for sites with a bulk uploader that would work with spreadsheets (CSV files) and use that to minimize my listing and inventory management efforts, but then I love spreadsheets. Then you could list on a few sites that look good to you with a bit less effort.
Best of luck to you!

I am extremely disappointed that 2 of the 3 sites I am looking at don't have an auction format, only BIN or OBO.
Ebid has auction but Bonanzle and Atomic Mall don't offer auction formats. I want auction for some of my items so I guess I will continue to look, as Ebid hasn't been productive at all. |

May I ask, how long have you been at Ebid, and how many auctions have you listed? do you have a store set up there?
Obviously it is going to take a lot of work to start fresh at a new auction site.. the problem is, sellers that have been selling on Greedbay for a long time, very easily forget how hard it was, and how long it took them to make their first sales.. I'd been at Fleabay since early '00.. I started selling shortly after (my sizable coin collection at the time..) and It took me exactly 48 days before making my first sale there, meanwhile I'd been listing at Yahoo auctions , and I'd been selling steadily , but I just was not getting good bids there..
but I stuck with FeeBay, and currently have 4.7 or better DSR's (even shipping) closing in on 400 100% positive feedback... and I'm still moving everything to Ebid myself.. and completely abandoning NaziBay once I've done that.. I insert a flyer into every package I ship, advertising that I'm moving all my auctions to ebid.. asking buyers to go visit .. it is the one thing SnoopBay cant stop me from doing.. Will also be contacting every buyer in my list on PayPal within the last 60 days or so, notifying them of the same.. |

I did purchase a lifetime membership on Ebid but my listings are not going anywhere.
Bonanzle and Atomic Mall have no auction format so they aren't going to be able to list some of the things I have because I want to do them as an auction. Most of my listings are less than $10 dollars but I really have no idea how much some of them are really worth.
I am the collection house for a bunch of things from my Great grand parents and my Great aunt. I have a number of items that are jewelry and being one of a kind I can't really look them up on the net to find a value (I spent hours trying to find any info I could with no luck). I do know that there is a small chance that any are extremely valuable but at least as an auction I might have a better chance to get their real worth than if I just assign a price. It is just as bad selling an item that is over-priced as under priced.
Other items that I have been able to find a price can go as a BIN if I have to list them that way.
I just really don't know what to do. |

hi ladywas,
With regards to the items that may be valuable i would go with specialist auctions they have a great forum where you can ask people if they know what an item is worth by just posting a picture, so it will save you endless hours on the internet, as with regards to BIN there are lots of sites around offering that facility, purple reading giraffe has done a great job with his list of alternatives on here. so i am sure there could be one that catches your eye. I wish you luck. |

I have been a member of Ebid for about 4 months. I only had a few things listed at first. They were books so I really didn't expect much from them.
I listed some more things a couple of weeks ago and nothing. I have views on some of them on others nothing. Some are BIN a couple others are auction format. Maybe I am just spoiled from Eboo.
I don't have a store, I am still not sure how many things I will ultimately list. I have rooms full of many different kinds of things. Right now I have over 30 pieces of jewelry and misc odds and ends, some old some not so old. I even have a light bulb from 1890's, looks burned out but it is not broken and in incredible shape considering age.
Thanks for your help and suggestions. Now its tie for me to make a decision.
If this is posted twice forgive me, I could not see it. |

I have had stuff on ebid for 5 months & sold nothing. It would be a shame for your lovely vintage treasures to slel for far less than they are worth. I think at the moment people are frightened to spend. It might be better for you to take them to an antique shop & get some idea of te value. I start all of my items at a price I'm happy to accept. If I get more it's a bonus. Things might pick up as it gets closer to XMAS. |
