You have just described the exact reason many, many, many sellers do NOT use drop shippers.

Not to be the messenger of bad news ..... but ...... If the items are not shipped soon and your buyers start asking for refunds, you telling them they have to wait for you to get the refund from the drop shipper is NOT going to go over very well. If I was one of the buyers and I decided I want a refund, I would want it NOW ... not 2-3 weeks from now. If payment was made by PayPal, expect to be hearing from them soon since the buyers will start filing for Item Not Received.

I don't sell what I don't have in my hot little hands.

Yes, Paypal will "dip" into your bank account with no reservations. Expect a lot of insufficient fund fees unless you have a lot of cash in your account.

Unfortunately, Ive learned this the hard way. I dont know how Im going to refund 20 people almost $400 each if this doesnt go through. They all paid through paypal and Ive already got 3 people filing chargebacks to get refunded. Theres no money in my paypal account and I hope paypal doesnt dip into my personal bank account to refund them their money -- Does anyone know if paypal would do this?

I will also be filing fraud charges against them so I can get the money back that way if they dont ship by the end of this week, hopefully, and refund everyone.

I need all the help I can get on this one...

I joined this drop shipper after paying $69 for a "lifetime membership". I noticed they had the ipods for a reasonable price plus an extra 20% off if youre a member. That is what sold me because those are a very hot item on ebay. I sold about 20 of these ipods almost immediately on ebay and put the order through. Their description stated that delivery would take up to 3 weeks, which I then stated in my auctions' description. They then changed their delivery time to 2-6 weeks, which I also stated my auctions' description and people still bidded knowing this.

Well, it has been longer than 3 weeks and after many emails and excuses first stating that the ipods will ship 9/22 and then stating that they just received a bulk shipment of 250 ipods on the 22nd and that they will be "packaged and shipped asap" and I will be provided the tracking numbers for all the orders this week. My customers have been very patient up until this point and I dont blame them at all... Ive very upset with this "company" and will never deal with them again.

If they were out of stock on these ipods, they should be up front and honest about it and not try and make it sound better by saying delivery will take up to 3 weeks and then 6 weeks.

Im wondering if these ipods will ever ship and if I will have to file fraud charges against them to get my money back and refund my customers. They said I can cancel the orders and get refunded and I asked how long it would take to get refunded. They said "Our refund policy states that refunds will be issued once funds are recovered by our distributor. The average refund is 2-3 weeks." So I just decided that if ALL the orders will be shipped this week for sure with no more delays, then I will leave it as it is and not cancel because I cant wait another 2-3 weeks (on average, which means it could be longer) to refund my customers who have already been waiting a month or more.

I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO FRUSTRATED!!!

I simply stated in the auction what was stated by the supplier in regards to shipping taking up to 3 weeks and was under the impression that they will be loyal to their shipment. I'm new at this and only started with this supplier due to health problems (I'm only 23) and other circumstances where Ive had to quit my job, on top of recently being hospitalized for 3 weeks on strict bed rest because I was having twins (born premature at 29 weeks on 9/19/06) and trying to have some sort of income coming in... Im doing the best I can. I had a lot going on besides trying to show my husband, who was only trying to help me out, how to respond to emails from my ebay customers and hoping that he does everything right... I have been very stressed and still am and I apologised for all the inconvenience this has caused my customers. Hopefully they will continue to be patient and understanding.

:: sigh ::

So what you're saying is that you listed these items and did NOT have them on hand in stock? That's a big time eBay violation. Some of your buyers may file on that one so expect problems.

You say that all your buyers paid thru paypal and you "don't know how you're going to refund them"? All you have to do is go to the transaction page on paypal and click "refund". That's very simple UNLESS the money they sent you is not available anymore? I've looked into stuff like this for years, particularly "drop shippers" who will ship directly to your buyer. This might work for awhile, but sooner or later, your supplier is going to be out of stock and you will have to give an excuse to your buyer. One supplier in particular is SMC. They aren't a legitimate wholesaler but they are dependable. But going out of stock on something is always inevitable.

APOP51,

There is a first time for everything. I didnt know that was a "big time violation" and as far as not knowing how to refund everyone, that's already been taken care of. As stated in my previous post, I received the refund from this supplier and so I just hit the "refund" button in their paypal payment details. When I said that I didnt know how I was going to refund everyone, that was in reference to not knowing if and when I would get the money back from this supplier as the buyers had already been waiting a long time. It worked out and thankfully the buyers werent too upset with me and have been very understanding and patient.

As far as SMC, have you personally dealt with them to know if they go out of stock frequently?

Paypal blows. They locked up my account with over $800 in it and I can't get them to unlock it. I will never use them again.

Going down the road I suggest you (and others who may read this) might take this piece of advice which applies to everything from online transactions to shopping for auto insurance; BEFORE you decide on a product, CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. If they make it difficult to find a phone number or they have you on hold for over 5 minutes, that means they're avoiding customers or alot of people have problems with them. Paypal is notorious for lengthy wait times, if you're even lucky enough to find their phone number. It sounds like Wholesale Central probably has similar wait times.

Paypal's phone are never a problem to find. Just type in "payap phone" in google and you'll get them or go to paypalsucks.com. In the 6+ years I've sold on ebay, I had to call paypal twice with problems they woudn't address by email. The first time, the "rep" laughed at me continuously. And it was a very legitimate problem. When you call them, they already know that their phones aren't published and that you went out of your way to get them, and they don't want your calls, so they ridicule you in their special way.

Yes, listing an item that you don't have in stock is an ebay violation of terms. I didn't make the rule and I know it's a strong term for the weak, but I just know it exists and I saw postings on ebay's discussion boards tonight from people who had the same kind of problem you have.
I was an SMC member for many years and used to sell a lot of merchandise to co-workers. I think their normal out of stock was about 5% or slightly higher. Here's how using their dropship service can be a problem on online auctions. If you check their site or their monthly data that's mailed to you, the item can be in stock but in the time you receive an order for it, it can easily go OUT of stock. The one thing that most ebay buyers expect is very prompt shipping. If an item goes out of stock, the entire transaction is blown. You can't wait 2 weeks, 30 days or more for an item to go back in stock. If you deal with a company like SMC, it's best to purchase the items in as big a quanities as possible and have them on hand to ship yourself. Just sell what you have in stock. And yes, SMC is very reputable and has been in biz for many many years. It's just that their prices are not true wholesale by any means. You pay them $4.00 for an item that retails for $12.00. The item would probably sell on ebay for $6.00 if you were lucky. That $4 item could have been bought for less than $1 if you could find it from a real wholesaler. But some items are exclusive to SMC, since they buy in huge quantities direct from China.
Selling iPods was a great idea and you're right on top of what's hot. If you could make $10-20 apiece, that would be great. If you deal with that problem wholesaler again or another one, it might be best to deal only C.O.D. so that you only pay when you get the merchandise. Some sellers won't use C.O.D. but it would make good business sense. You had to beg and threaten that one to get any action.

PostPosted: Wed Oct 18, 2006 1:56 pm   Post subject: Bad ! Apple says shipped iPods carrying computer virus #25  Back to top

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Some of Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod digital music players shipped in the past month carry a computer virus, according to a posting on Apple's technical support Web site.

Apple said since September 12, less than 1 percent of Video iPods -- pocket-sized devices that can play music files and video clips -- left its contract manufacturer carrying the virus RavMonE.exe, which affects computers running Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system.

"So far we have seen less than 25 reports concerning this problem. The iPod nano, iPod shuffle and Mac
OS X are not affected, and all Video iPods now shipping are virus free," the company said on the site.

Apple said the virus can be detected and removed using many popular anti-virus software programs.

Representatives for Apple and Microsoft were not available

to comment further on Wednesday morning.
