HI ALL,

I have a dilemma and need advice and/or assistance.

Because of ebay’s 100%-500% increase in Stores fees, I want to Setup up a Store Like presence on Yahoo. Maybe just setting up Auctions at Fixed price is Store Like enough.

To set up the Yahoo Account for Auctions they want a verified Yahoo email address. They make it also sound like they just recently have it where you cannot or should not have two email accounts.

My problem is this, I have for the past 8-ish years have always used my Yahoo email address as my Close Friends & Family Permanent Point of Contact email account. Also my Yahoo account has my name in it and I have an extremely unique name (like I’m probably the only one, two, three in the whole world). For security reasons, I Don’t want all my communications with customers to have my name given out. I also don’t want it where my Yahoo email account is bombarded with so many Yahoo Auction event messages that if a close family or friend did sent me an email I might not get it (because it got buried).

I know you can have aliases on your Yahoo email accounts, But I don’t know if in Yahoo Auctions they will give and display your Alias as your Yahoo Email return address.

I don’t want to do this, but if the above does not work, I might just have to create a new email Account (I would assume under false address). But this leads me to how to do this so I don’t trip up the verification. If you want to PM me on this one I can understand not wanting to post to the group. I really hate this, this reminds me of the Military where they had too many rules and regulations and to get anything realistically done (and thus be effective) you have to break a rule now and then…

Please give your suggestions/thoughts/comments…

Thanks,

AlterEgo

NOTE: I contacted and carefully explained to Yahoo Auctions about this and after about 2 days they finally replied. BUT the stock reply they sent did not answer the question. I’m under the assumption that either the person didn’t read what I wrote and/or he can only reply with stock responses and he just gave the closest stock reply that of course didn’t really pertain to what I was originally asking. I came to the conclusion that any further communications with Yahoo Auctions people is just going to be a waste of time (especially considering it is probably going to take them 2-3 days to reply back).

You don't have to use your Yahoo email account as your email
address for Yahoo Auctions.

After you sign up you can use a secondary email address.
You will have to add the secondary email address to your account
if you have not already done so.

campu2 is right about having more than 1 email addy in your Y account. I have 4 or 5 emails in my account. Only 1 is a Y email addy too.

I have the extras mainly for several groups that I belong to. Different groups emails go to different addys. Having a couple of Gmail accounts is helpful for something like this.

When you add an account, they will send you an email to verify the account. Just click the verify link and you're all set. Put in a couple of new email addies and make something other than your Y email the "primary" for the Y auctions.

The Y auctions would be a decent way to go for your E alt. The Y stores are more expensive than the E stores. Several other options would be eCrater and Blujay. Both are totally free and get decent exposure on Froogle.

For a store/site of your own, check out the stores right here at PSU.

Carol

So true - you can use it, but don't have to! I use the same email address for sales information on all sites - exactly like you - I want my personal email for friends/family/softball/scouts/other!! Confused Very Happy

THANKS campu2, knappschiles, 2BOYSandTOYS,

I was being overly cuatious (because I have been burned before) and just didn't want to go down the wrong path [in the Stetup process] and then having it where it would be painful to undo the damage. Sometimes setting up software is simular...

Thanks Again,

AlterEgo
