I would be leary of giving any numbers like your SS# to Yahoo. My Mom had her whole account hacked away from her about 3 years ago. The person that stole it, even started auctioning items off under her user ID. There was Zero response from Yahoo, other than computer generated E-mails. She had 54 positive feedbacks in her auctions, she had all the options with her account, including Bill pay, and the payment system set up over there. Never once, even after calling a reporting the theft, to the police, which ended up in identity theft, was there a response or answer, nor was she given her account and rating back. I am surprised to read that you can actually talk to a human now at Yahoo.
Even after all my Mom went through, I tried to go register there, because I have been reading here, how good sales are, and I never want to use the other place again, but as stated by the original poster, it gives me the same errors. I cannot register either, so I gave up on Yahoo, again.
I always look at it this way. The sellers are buyers too. If the potential sellers can't register, there goes a lot of traffic. The other thing I don't like about Yahoo is that they hide the auctions. If you don't know Yahoo has auctions, you may never surf to those pages. Auctions definitely were not on the home page the last time I looked.
If you were Yahoo and wanted to make some money, wouldn't you straiten this mess out, so people could register? Wouldn't you have a big link to Auctions on the Home Page? I wish my items were selling better at Wagglepop and Bidville. So far the best site, with my listings is Ioffer. I have had more sales there, and wish I could make a better looking store, so my customers could browse easier. It's probably the site I put the least amount of time into and have had the most amount of sales.

I have the least luck at Ioffer. LOL. Whats your secret?
Enough said there. I agree.
I was thinking about this last night. I constantly get emails to open a store on Y. How can I even think of opening a Y store; which I would love to do. It costs money, but they practically build it, and there is tons of support. LOL. There is where the fear is. If they can't keep up a simple auction area with tech support. How they going to do it in a Y store? I don't belive it. I would be afraid to put my money into a store.
I love Yahoo and do all my business there. I just wish they could handle these problems. I mean no pictures, can't log in, constant problems all at once is over whelming to say the least. One at a time, not so bad. But 5 problems at once is horrible. Im going to pray for a change. Amen.
I don't blame any Tech support there when there is not enough as was said earlier. My husband is blessed to have a job at Ford and they work him to death now. I understand this and have no ill will. But I would love to see a change in the high powers. |

Yahoo!'s Home Page is a "dynamic" home page. If I go to it and haven't signed in, auctions doesn't appear on it. However, once I sign in, it shows up as one of the highlighted options. Like you, I wished it showed as one of the options for everyone. That is one of the things that we (in the group) were trying to get changed last year, but we (and the Yahoo! auctions manager) couldn't get it done.
Part of this problem is "mixed" loyalty on Yahoo!'s part. Granted they need listings in auctions to make their advertising model work. However, they get nothing from an actual sale through auctions. They get paid for the click-thrus to the advertising they place on auctions. If a person can actually get registered or they can't, they can still click through to those links where Yahoo! gets revenue. Traffic is what is important to Yahoo!, not actual sales through auctions. But if the traffic on the click-thrus doesn't suffer, they have little incentive to go out of their way to keep the core of the auctions venue working and devote more resources to it.

I don't like to be in a position of defending Yahoo!, especially when I'm as upset with them as I currently am, BUT they do support their stores pretty well. The reason is that stores have always been a huge profit center for Yahoo!, while auctions produce only marginal profit for them, at best.

AMEN to that, ladyJ! The new VP that will be over auctions, Hilary Schneider, comes to Yahoo! with a great record of success and the respect of her prior co-workers. I worry because she's now drinking from the same fountain as those other Yahoo! execs there. There is no doubt that Yahoo! hired her to aggressively attack the classifed market that is such a "hot" area, now. What she will do with auctions remains to be seen. I fear auctions will remain on the back burner. It's too bad that they didn't hire Schneider for the CEO position. A wholesale change of the top level executive positions at Yahoo! would be welcome, not only for auction users, but for Yahoo! employees and investors as well. The current hierarchy has proven that they are unable to effectively compete with their counterparts at Google and eBay.
