My biggest Pet Peeve with the USPS is that they underestimate their time on their Advertisements and Website.

They say both Media Mail and Parcel Post estimated times are 2-9 days... It SHOULD say 2-12 days.

I've had quite a few ZONE 8 items go a good two weeks (That’s about 12 Post Office Business Days). I’ve also have had a ZONE 5 and just yesterday a ZONE 6 Parcel Post take two weeks. It is sort of a PITA because you almost have to spend time with the customer pre-emotively calming them down, stating that you shipped same or next day after payment received and it is no longer under your control. I provide them with the Delivery Confirmation Number and proof that it was shipped. I Don’t Blame them (the Buyer) though…

It just looks bad when you try to quote the time range and it has already been past 9 Post Office Business days…

Cheers,

AlterEgo

ALSO NOTE: Yes it IS true that they DISCOURAGE MEDIA MAIL. You CANNOT Print Media Mail (Or Parcel Post) Shipping Labels at their Online Click-n-Ship Site AND you CANNOT Print Media Mail at their Automated Postage Mailing Kiosks that are normally in the 24 hour lobby of most bigger post offices.

Shoot, they heavily advertise "Guaranteed Next Day Delivery" that often takes 2-3 days to get there. No surprise that slower methods would be...well, slower LOL

It IS very frustrating, though, especially when you've quoted a time to a buyer. I always tell the buyer, "per the USPS website, estimated time of delivery is X" I hate doing that because it sounds like I'm copping out, but it's the most honest info I can provide.

I go into the PO now and have them manually scan the handwritten DC forms into the system. At least that way, the customer can see on the website the date and time the PO received it.

I did not know that about Media Mail, Alter, thanks for the tip!

I've had media mail take up to a month and a half to get to me before and as little as 4 days. I think it really gets put on the back burner during high volume mail periods. But its the cheapest so I use it whenever allowed since 90% of time my costumers have chosen the cheapest mailing option when given the choice. Single cd type items I send First Class since it is about the same price as media mail.

All of my items give the customers a choice.. I state that First Class is not guaranteed in the time stated on the USPS website.. Of course there are people who do not understand this and then there is always the person who says, well i received another item this week from FL and I ordered them on the same day.. Im thinking, sure buddy, out of all of the states you happened to place two order from the same state.. It is possible.. However it all starts with your post office, and I know for a fact that many of my items have sat at the PO a few days before ever leaving.. In fact last year I had like 25 items shipped on Dec. 8th that never made it to any of their destinations.. Now that was a Christmas nightmare, and how could all 25 of them just so happened to have not made it.. I swear those things were trashed, or sitting on a shelf someplace in mail purgatory..

What kills me though is the people who do NOT heed your advice posted in your listings and try to order a first class item on the 15th, or 16th and expect it to be there by the 24th.. HA! Im like for $1 more you can get Priority mail and it will make it before Christmas.. On Ebay I have a ticker type message that goes across the top of all of my auctions.. I can change it anytime I want and dont you know I will be warning customers not to use first class after the 12th and expect it to be on time.. We shall see how many of them actually see it or listen to it...

Ha, I just got a negative too for the same reason, sad part is, its still saying that its not delivered sent it over 2.5 wks ago Evil or Very Mad Well, watchya going to do. most times, I use first class. This would have gotten a signature, anything over 20 bucks. Hmmm, could be a scam though, trying to say that they didn't receive , till they find out I do delivery confirmation on all my products. It was one of two collectible items...this really slipped past me. I hope it shows up delivered...arrrgh, if not I could be in for a long battle. Crying or Very sad
