Washington - Across the world, the Pentagon has thousands of garages, hangars and sprawling lots to store all its jets, tanks and other weaponry. But, like most American households, it suffers from clutter, with old, unused and unwanted things.

And so the Pentagon runs a little-publicized giveaway and tag sale program to clean out its overstuffed attics and closets, which are bulging with the greatest weapons buildup since the Reagan era.

The Pentagon also uses the Excess Defense Articles program, as it is called, to reward government friends and allies across the globe with equipment the Pentagon says it no longer needs.

There are deals galore, available free to the right customer or for cents on the dollar of their original cost. And there are lots of deal hunters, but access is by invitation only, and only for governments.

Pakistan and Jordan have snapped up a bunch of used F-16 Fighting Falcon jets. Afghanistan kicked the tires on a fleet of slightly used armored personnel carriers and walked away with 75 of them. A small fleet of 30-year-old sea rescue lifeboats has become the backbone of the Yemeni coast guard, and Portugal is about to take possession of a decommissioned guided-missile frigate.

Patty,

I have my own SKS with a scope.

That's the Chinese version of the AK-47 I believe. It was used by the Viet-cong. Makes a great deer hunting rifle.

And you all thought I was just a sweet little old farm lady LOL !!!

Those deer have eaten way too much of my lettuce. It's war out there at times.

BLAZE ORANGE --- DNR rules.

Any gun hunting for deer is blaze orange. Only time you can do the camo is during bow season.

Carol - I probably couldn't even lift that thing....imagine a gray haired retired lady - not even 5 ft. tall...trying to hoist a gun like that...let alone a bazooka! I think the world is pretty much safe from me Smile

That's when you mount it on one of those motorized wheelchairs. Where there's a will, there's a way!! LOL

I'm looking for something a little less conventional...a F-22 Raptor with a full payload. When I take someone out....I wanna do it fast!! LOL ( Which is one of the reasons I never joined the military. My family said I should never be allowed to use any type of weapon or to own any kind or weapon. No idea why!! LMAO)

It's not really a machine gun.

It's a semi-automatic rifle. For the military there is a fully auto feature that they have to remove whan they sell it to the public.

I also don't have the "banana" clip for it, only the smaller 10 round clip. The banana clip holds at least 50 rounds, maybe more. I really don't know.

Truth be told, while I have gone out hunting with it, I haven't gotten one with it yet. The deer always seem to be way too far away, like 200-350 yards. If I could get them at about 100 yards, I'm a decent shot, but not at that range.

I did get a nubby buck with the slug shotgun a couple of years ago. Hubby was driving a field and it came out of the brush almost right on top of me. I fired when it turned. I had thought I missed it, as it jumped off. But it only made it about 3 bounds and fell dead.

An SKS is an SKS

Developed by the Russian's , it was a semi-auto stop-gap carbine that could not compete with the AK's

But , it was popular in alot of places like Vietnam and Eastern Bloc countries and of course Soviets licensed it and people copied it like mad.

Its not an assault rifle ,but its nice rifle , solid like Uaz jeep !
You can get them in Canada , 5 round clip , also kits to make them look just like AK47.

Ja....I could have sold Russian weapons ,Eastern Europe is awash in them ,but I prefer Russian books , I like to chat and people person ....arms trade is so grrr grrrr give me the crate here is your money. Razz

Where is the fun , the conversation Question

Shocked
Well I already own some of the Pentagon's toys, many of which I cannot discuss here Shocked Cool

I COULD use and old F-16 though to fight the local poachers Twisted Evil

If ever in the military, more than likely you're member of military.com and you can get the "inside scoop" of some of the latest "toys" our tax $$ are paying for.

Sooner or later, they'll be available to the public Twisted Evil

Now to find me some poachers and play with some of my "Pentagon toys" Laughing

Haven't you ever seen that Army commercial where the guy comes home for the hilodays and his buddies ask him what the army has him doing ?? His answer -- working with computers.

You can be our behind the scenes techie. You know, controling all the high tech gadgets and aiming the weapons !!!
