Nice of the government to give all of that equipment away for FREE after the US citizens tax money bought it Evil or Very Mad

They could at least let US citizens purchase some of the smaller civilian-legal items

That's the Chinese version of the AK-47 I believe. It was used by the Viet-cong. Makes a great deer hunting rifle.

Howdy fellow SKS owner ! Thumbsup

You probably have the Chinese version of the SKS. Does it say "Norinco" on the side next to the bolt?

I have the Yugoslavian version with the Grenade launcher Angel and love mine.

For more info and history on SKS's check here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKS

My SKS is more accurate at longer distances than my AK with the same caliber/make cartridge.

A banana clip (detachable mag) usually hold 30 rounds, but most users find them more trouble than they are worth (detachable mags on SKS's are illegal in most areas of the US). Do you use stripper clips to load your 10-round magazine?

Does yours still have the spike bayonet on it?

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of yours if you have one.

Hi AuctionRSSFeed.com,

Yes mine has the "made in China Norinco" on the side. No bayonette, and I don't know what stripper clips are. Just what the thing came with when hubby got it.

Unfortunately I don't use it enough to really be good with it. Hubby did get a deer with it up north one year, but whenever I've used it, I can't seem to get the deer closer than way across the farm from me.

We did get a couple of bricks of the Russian ammo for it tho, as we've been told that that works better than the Remmington stuff you can buy for it.

I have to add that we are in a "shotgun only" area during normal deer hunting. That's why I'm not using it all that much. I can only use the SKS when we apply for "ag damage" permits and we didn't do that this year.

Strangely enough tho, I can use it for any "small game" or varmint hunting, but not for during deer hunting. Goofy DNR rules.

Carol

Carol,

Stripper clips are a little metal strips that you attach 10 rounds to them for later use. You insert the clip into the bolt slot, push down on the top cartridge with your thumb and all 10 rounds are loaded. You can get them cheaply alot of places, sometimes less than $0.50 a piece.

Remington is too high when you can get Wolf milsurp ammo that's just as good for a fraction of the price.

I'm not a hunter, so I'm not too saavy on the hunting laws, but it "may" be possible to use your SKS during hunting season if the magazine is changed to 5-rounder by either putting a small block of wood in the bottom of your current 10-rounder, or purchasing a 5-round mag.

You could probably find a bayonet for it if you want to also. They were designed to have one installed, not just for poking people but the weight (even folded) helps compensate for muzzle climb when firing.

Wisconsin hunting laws are very strick and sometimes don't make a whole lot of sense. But no there is no way you can use a rifle in the shotgun only area EXCEPT if you are the land owner and are using an ag damage permit for the hunt.

The shotgun only areas are for shotgun slugs because for the most part they are more populated and they don't want rifle rounds going into people's houses.

The problem with slugs tho is that you have to be just about on top of the deer as they don't travel very far before they drop like a rock. If the deer is more than 50 yards away, your chances of hitting it are slim and none. The one that I got a couple of years ago was only about 25 yards away at the time.

One of the reasons hubby got this gun is because I'm a lefty and it's a semi auto. I don't have to do anything to chamber the next round. Most guns are set-up for righties. For the same reason I have a Pump action shotgun. I can't work a bolt action as the bolt is always on the wrong side.

Carol
