Especially suited to international users, but anyone can use them. They have a nice escrow service for 2% fee, and this could really solve a lot of problems we all face. However, they get a black eye for not informing customers of substantial changes in their service. For instance, they no longer accept e-gold and they will not accept sites with content they deem questionable. (adult and other sites) We recommend them, but unhappy with their failure to notify members (becoming just like PayPal) and very slow response to questions. Not as bad as Ikobo, but still more than a day to respond.

You can only sell intangibles. (ebooks, hosting, services, etc) However, no monthly fees and very easy for your customer to use. Recommended, but has restrictions. You can also block users to reduce the risk of fraud based on their location, or accept almost worldwide. Your choice. You are also included in their merchant mall, which usually will bring you a little extra business. It also has a very nice affiliate program built-in. Rates a bit higher than others, but it's still worth looking at.

Storm Pay is a DEFINATE NO - NO - They have a horrible rating with the BBB - here are parts of their report:

Its always good to ask around before you sign up for something and share with others if you have a problem with a site.

Not a problem glad I could help - I'd hate to see someone scammed or ripped off. I was just out researching and the thought I should post and warn everyone.

We need to find a reputable good alternative to Paypal. Something that gives us the same features and does not cost us a small fortune to have.

I've looked at some of the ones posted above and most seem geared to online web businesses. I just need a merchant account? Is that what it would be called?

You tell me...lol...here's what I need ~

Something my buyers can transfer money into to pay me - money that I have access to by debit/check card (like the PP card) - something If I want I can transfer money from it - into my bank account and I can do so without it costing me an arm & a leg. Something with online access like PP with all the transactions viewable with the click of a button. And when my buyers pay me they wont get charged. I don't even need anything that accepts credit cards. I get so few it does not even matter if I have that "feature" or not. Thats about it!

Some of these seem so complex. (although I have not looked at them all yet) I don't need all the bells and whistles. Just something basic -any basic ones out there???

You can accept Visa/MC/eChecks/Debit Cards online or with a swipe machine (wireless terminals are nice in case you travel or sell to friends). Their merchant discount rate is only 2.39% + $.25 per transaction (quite a bit lower than PayPal), and there is NO application fee (if you want to accept AMEX and Discover, a separate underwriting application will be necessary). You can apply online or call them at (877) 852-1292 (M-F) or email them 24/7. We received approval within one hour, and unlike ProPay, an up-front credit card payment is NOT required. CSI can be used for online auctions, too (we're moving all of our products to www.onlineauction.com and will put a logo on our auction pages). It is a good idea to purchase an SSL (secure socket layer) certificate (+/- $100) so buyers will know they are paying thru a secure terminal. CSI offers a free shopping cart service for up to 50 products. Customer payments are deposited into your checking account, but they will send you a debit card (like PayPal's) if you want to withdraw funds from atn ATM. Always read the fine print before signing anything! There are typical charges like with all merchant accounts, such as for chargebacks or eChecks that bounce, but their fees are less than other merchant services. I signed up for GoDaddy's web hosting and then requested a refund because they have FEW choices of templates and don't allow customized pages (they don't tell you this prior to making payment!). Shoppingcartsplus is a dream come true with easy menus and step-by-step instructions on setting up a web site. You can use their PayPal setup AND your own merchant account. Again, be sure that cookies are enabled when signing up. if you don't yet have a domain name registered www.godaddy.com is good for that because they are inexpensive, and they do have 24/7 support (too bad their web hosting isn't better).

We just received approval of our merchant account from CardService International (1-866-295-5264). You can sign up at:

Their per-transaction merchant rate is less than PayPal (PayPay raised their rate to $2.99% + $.35 per transaction, and although you don't pay PayPal a monthly fee, you make up for it in eBay fees). CardService's rates are:

Visa/MC - 2.35% + $.30 per transaction
Virtual (eChecks) - 1.99% + $.20 per transaction

The monthly merchant rate for the virtual terminal is $15.95/mo., but if you add the virtual check option, the monthly rate drops to $9.95. You can take customer payments by phone and manually enter them into the virtual terminal from any computer AND they give you a FREE SSL certificate where elsewhere we noticed they cost between $89-120. You also can generate Buy it Now/Add to Cart buttons and add them to your auction pages or web site. They have very good customer service, and their emails are professional and detailed.
