Hello,
I just recently started selling on ebay again and have been searching for a good drop shipper for days. I have been using a few that I found but no big profits from them but it's a start.
What's so frustrating is all the sites that say drop shipping and when you go to the site they want to sell you a list of drop shippers. Then you buy the list and the drop shippers want a membership fee before you can even see their products or prices.
I have found drop shippers in China but can I trust them? I've read on the ebay message boards to be careful with drop shippers from China.
Wholesale in bulk looks like the only way to make big money but I have no where to stock products or the cash to invest right now.
Then there are the Ebay fee's. After paying the listing fee, percentage of the sale fee and paypal fee there isn't much left for myself.
What are the answers? How are all the power sellers doing it? |

I don't know about other PSs, but most of the PSs sellers I know buy, stock, sell and ship their own inventory, or have direct control over it in some form or another.
The key to success is finding the niche product or a solid source of desirable goods. Drop shipping to me is as much as scam as amway, herbalife and any other MLM program out there.

I would never use a drop shipper that wants a payment before they show you their products and the prices. |

The only one who makes money is the drop shipper and the poor sellers are left with the negative feedback when the item is sold out, not shipped etc.
Welcome to PSU! |

Drop shipping price is never good if you want to compete on eBay. You can barely survive buying wholesale.
These days there are people who LIVE IN CHINA selling on eBay direct. They just go to the factory and pick up the product and ship it to the eBay buyers in the USA.
So, you are never going to find the drop shipper you are looking for but I do disagree on one point - a drop shipper shouldn't release their prices to you unless you either pay or sumbit your reseller ID.
If the prices are shown to the public than who would want to pay your inflated price...?
Stay away from drop shipping. Be creative and find other sourcing methods. At the risk of being called a shameless self promoter, I offer a guide that allows you all the benefits of drop shipping while actually allowing you to profit. Yes, even on eBay.
In any case. NEVER risk more money than you can afford to lose. Business is about taking risks, there are no sure things. |

There are many of these -- they have emerged overnight. While many do offer very good prices, the problem is that everyone on eBay is using them already. Many eBayers will buy a product from them and mark it up a measly $5 - $8 hoping to sell quantity and to make big money that way. All that end up happening is the market value of the product being destroyed. |

This undifferentiated discussion about dropshipping makes me laugh...
Sure, if you would like to dropshp a me-too product with razor-thin margin, marketing on ebay with associated high cost and work, then you will run into problems. And your supplier will too, consequently the execution is bound to be unreliable, even with best intentions to deliver.
First, you need to have the right products. Initally and maybe for a long time your purchasing, regardless of the claims of your wholesale suppliers, will not be able to compete with the acquisition costs big resellers have. So you need to concentrate on special niche markets where pricing competition is much less severe or even almost non existant. These type of products are not available from ebay wholesalers, you need to look for specialized distributors (not the big guys like Ingram Micro, Techdata, D&H, Synnex, etc. where pricing is uncompetitive, essentially you pay for low pricing to their large customers and are roadkill from their viewpoint) importers or even at offshore manufacturers.
Your understanding of a product is a big factor too. And if you sell into commercial markets you will find that ebay doesn't get much attention from businesses. You will need a website as well. Then ebays cost structure and policies become an obstacle to a unified marketing approach.
My experience with dropshipping is immensely gratifying and I have quite a lot of vendors in different technology areas. Still, some products (low ticket items in general) and vendors are not suitable, and one needs to keep inventory there to keep customers happy.
Also, dropshipping is since a while not limited to the US only. Global dropshipping can be very helpful to lower your cost, be it from a US supplier to an offshore location or from an offshore vendor to a customer outside the US. Mixed shipments where a percentage comes fom the US and another part directly from a manufacturer occur quite often here and create many competitive advantages for me.
The current US$ exchange rate situation is the icing on the cake. Unfortunately it will not last, $-pricing is bound to move upwards.
To sum it up you need to look for the right products and you need to built a relationship. If offshore, most Asian suppliers, because of cultural background and almost unsurmountable language problems, are really behind in marketing. Offering something there makes you attactive for them. Relationships take time, you need to look at it longer term. |

I'm not big on drop shipping at all. If you're serious about selling on eBay, I suggest stocking your own product.
The key to success on eBay is to ship quickly and offer exceptional customer service. If you sell an item and later find out that your dropshipper doesn't have it in stock, your customers are not going to be very pleased.
Also, have you considered the shipping issues? Obviously, shipping from China is going to be expensive (especially on a per-item basis) and it's going to take a considerable amount of time.
Nope... I would definitely say that dropshipping out of China is a bad idea. My $0.02. |

ALso, most of the companies that offer drop shipping direct from China have sellers in China selling directly on eBay. How are you going to compete with that!? Drop Shipping from China or ANYWHERE is a bad plan for eBay. |

I've used Doba. They give you access to 100's of suppliers. And they guarantee their prices. If you are trying to make money on ebay... you're gonna be spending hours researching. if your selling on a website and you don't know how to market...good luck. But if you know how to market. the prices are great! I don't have the money to warehouse products but investing in marketing is the key. I mean investing time not money. Learn how to market and you can do well. Doba works as a dropshipper because they just give you access to suppliers you couldn't work with on your own. Read this free info from doba on dropshipping and you will understand how they work and why they are valuable. http://www.doba.com/how/drop-ship-value.html
Peace

There are lots of good dropshippers, but most are non-exclusive in my opinion. |
