Ok, I have checked them all out.
Ecrater-- sellers seem to sell maybe 30 items a year. A few more like 60 and most less.
Etsy -- same thing. A good seller may sell 200 a year but most are selling 50 or so.
Ioffer - most feedback is mixed with ebay so I don't know how to tell if anyone is selling anything.
Blujay - I see no way to tell there either.
Is there anywhere that people can list and expect to sell even 100 items a month? Or is everyone just spinning their wheels by listing everywhere and selling nowhere?
On a bad month I sold 90 or so items on Ebay. Pre 2006 I sold 300 or so a month.
Are those days just over forever with no decent alternatives?(for vintage sellers) |

We need to make actions to increase other sites like BluJay, eCrater, Ebid,...
We cannot to be on Ebay's hands - nevermore !!!!
If each seller make something, we can change the actual picture.
Three weeks ago I received an email from an ex-eBay's seller. It was a kind email where he explained regarding the closing Ebay's account and open another accounts on the BluJay, Ebid and eCrater.
It was a great way for this seller. I contacted him a few days ago and his sales are growing up after this email.
I will do the same on this weekend. I am taking all emails on my PayPal account and my outlook.
I think if each seller make the same, the picture will change !
Kindest regards, |

I have been looking at it from a different angle and asking if people have bought from the sites I frequent, the answer tends to be the same.
The sites do not have what they want.
So maybe it is still down to us to add to what we have, as if you think about it their only real comparison is ebay, the place that was known as the place to find or sell anything. |

Hello, I have tried so many sites with so little results, I find it amazing that Ebay and Amazon completely rule the internet, but then I find this on almost every aspect of the internet...the corporate world which has the bucks and the staying power and the tons and tons of ads has made the internet just another shopping mall, ask Donohue it's what he is doing.
Ecrater, no sales, blujay no sales, Ebid.net no sales, Gemm (records/cds, very small sales after 5 years), iOffer a mess, very small sales, no payments. Alibris a few sales, not worth the time, but at least they talked to me....I have 15K items on some of these sites with still no sales or minimal sales...granted albums and cds are competitive and also antiques to many gadget hounds, but on ebay (pre-May 19/20) I could make a living just from sheer numbers. Now, waste of time, absolutely no sales with best match and stores not showing up in listings....so I am back into retail and it sure is a hell of a lot less work than all that typing and inane and useless advertising....oh yeah, want to make money on the internet, sell books and how tos about making money on the internet...kind of like real estate gurus that sell plans rather than buy houses....So yes, I have tried a lot of them, given them quantity and time, but narrowing down to my own site, which also has only a few sales....cyberspace is a cruel mistress...Rather Russ, stop in at www.dedicatedfool.com if you still like music and not compressed on a new gadget. |

Hi RatherRuss,
I am on EBID for 1 month and I have sold 18 items.
I am on eCrater for 1 1/2 week and sold 2 items - BluJay on the same time but without sales.
I am curious about one thing: how eCrater and BluJay have a lot of hits and the sales do not happen on the same proportion ? The hits on the both sites are incredible !
Something is wrong ? Do you have any idea ?
Kindest regards,
C.Engelke |

C'mon MetzyMom, we all know you work for OLA, but nice try
If that is true, how come so many sellers are mad at OLA? I checked it out, but there is a lot of venom for sure. They are just plain mad. If the sales are so good, I'd think they'd be happy.
Understood, I should be nice. |

This Topic is surely a Dilemma for along time here and at many other forums.
Sitting back shaking my head, not sure which is the Best place to sell besides Ebay. It seems like NO PLACE at the moment. I sell a few things at Ecrater and not much at blujay. Basically a warehouse for me at blujay.
Business has been bad this summer with Gas Prices being so high, etc. etc. BUT At least Ecrater is showing up on Google. I do think Ecrater has their Sh$t together. Poor Old Blujay is laying somewhere Dormant. Not being exposed enough at all. I feel sorry for Blujay, its like the Website is being totally neglected. I would just like to slap the owner and tell him, SNAP out of it, hes got such a nice place. Wonder what happened to him? Maybe just lack of Desire to make it MORE SUCCESSFUL than it could be. Or busy doing other things? Manscaping, LOL. That site has so much Potential to be BETTER, but its out there on the web Undisturbed, like its taking along NAP!! I am sad about this. |

First, I thought it was a personal question about personal sales... I, myself, ME am doing great over at OLA. Head and Shoulders above what I was doing at eBay, where I couldn't give soap away... lol...
Second, it is no surprise to anyone here at PSU that I am an OLA supporter, but I don't work for OLA... I do sell at OLA... I do participate in chats, blogs, events, etc. at OLA...
Third, if OLA were not working for me personally, I would not still be there... If I didn't believe that OLA is going to be the next big site, I would not still be there...
Lastly, as for the venomous reports that are filling up the OLA Discussion Area of this site, all I can say is that most of them are not sellers or buyers ANYWHERE. They spend hours, nay, DAYS working overtime on trashing OLA (or whatever site is their current target, because OLA wasn't the first and won't be the last). Think about it... they comb through OLA chats, members blogs, the OLA forums here, and yet, they complain that they never had sales over there... You have to ask yourself why those handful of people don't have something better to do with their time. |

Metzy....Glad to meet you. I am happy that you have found your place on the internet. I think I have too, but sales are slow. I really Like Ecrater, they are a very nice site. Alittle to get use to with their confusing format, but overall a nice place.
Not too crazy about their feedback system. Cause actually a place like Ecrater shouldn't have a feedback system period. But Blujay is a nice place too, just dead for now.
Your selling Soap? Awesome, well no matter how bad times get for folks, everybody needs Soap, thats forsure. Take care! |

You're cranking out the spam too, Metzy. Way to go... Why don't you come blazing back onto the PSU boards and violate their policies immediately? Oh, wait, you did that! |

I love Blujay as a buyer. It is the only non ebay site I have purchased from.
The layout is familiar, the search is great, the line-up of items is easy to navigate through, and overall it looks good.
But, I have heard others say the same thing about no sales. It's a shame the owner didn't really work to make it successful. People would almost think they were back on the OLD ebay when they shop there.
I had hesitated with ecrater because I hate shopping there. The things I look for bring back thousands of items and wading through them on ecrater is very very slow. I also don't like the small pix and the dull font (kind of like ebay is heading too).
But, I did notice they always show up well on google.
I'm through with ebay. Sales slowed in March and died in May so there's just not much point in throwing away money hoping it will improve.
I was building my own site but didn't make a sale in 4 months so just put it on hold to see where else I might try.
I'm thinking people really want a "marketplace" type setting for collectibles rather than individual websites.
Has anyone tried Tias? |

I looked at ebid, but even though I clicked to go to the US site it looks like 90% of the listings are international.
Maybe I never wound up on the right place? |

All I know is that I don't want to have to offer free shipping and pay 18 to 35 cents an item per month. This is so crazy.
More than ever we need an auction alternative. There is a lot of momentum now, and once the UK changes get out, there will be a lot of sellers giving up.
A lot of my items are low priced and can't absorb a $2 shipping fee. Plus, I'd be overcharging on sales for more than 1 item. How funny would it be to offer $2 off each item for purchases of more than 1 item.
I thought I could do free shipping on items I put into core, but if they get rid of SIF, everything will be hit.
I can't believe eCrater has over 1,350,000 listings and still not making a dime. He must have a lot of money and doesn't need anymore. |

I was wondering how he makes money too. He must have a lot invested in the site.
I think the ebay will be flooded with over-priced items when the new 35 cent listings start.
And, as a result, stores will never be seen again because any search will bring back more than 30 results.
I can't afford free shipping either. My items sell for under $7.
So, 60 cents in FVF soon (betting they raise it in core and store soon). 60 cents in PP fee. Only 1/5 sell at any listing and sometimes on 1/10 so 35 cents to list and another $2 or so to pay for the listings that didn't sell and I am sitting at under $4 profit before I start shipping.
I cannot absorb the shipping fees and I cannot raise my fees. In fact, I have tons of craft books, cookbooks, etc to list that will have to start even lower than $7 and I cannot afford to list them on Ebay.
For 10 years I did very good on Ebay. For the last 3 (Prior to May of 07) I depended on store sales for the majority.
But, even stores are now too expensive to list in when they won't be seen and when ebay expects free shipping.
The shipping limits don't work if I offer a lot of say 6 or 7 items either. |
