If you are really not that familiar with Overstock, this might seem possible.
If we were talking about a company other than Overstock, this might not only seem plausible, but actually seem quite astute and logical.

But alas, we ARE talking about Overstock.
Given that fact, we can now throw logical assumptions out the window.

Now, you might think this is just a personal opinion, and I guess it actually is just my personal opinion.
But you then have to ask yourself, "What does he base this opinion on?
Is he psychic?
Is he an eBay plant, here only to disparage other auction sites?
Does he have a crystal ball and can see into the future?
Does he have "inside" information and is truly Overstock's "Deep Throat"?
(Has to do with Watergate for the younger crowd out there ....... also the name of a movie but we won't go there)"

Actually, it is none of these.
Look through the Overstock threads on PSU and you will find I am either the author of the thread or have posted in the thread.
If you take time to read many of the threads, you will find that I am not spreading rumor or inuendo. I present mostly facts, and I can back those facts up with links to other sources. Or I present statiistics, and I will lay the numbers out there, number all gleaned from Overstock's site. I once posted something on the Overstock Message Board that was not "common" knowledge, in fact Overstock management had been providing inaccurate information to the users. The moderator publicly scolded me on the board and labelled me a troublemaker. I provided the moderator the "facts" to back up what I said, and soon Overstock management was forced to acknowledge what I stated to be the truth.
More than once I have offered up small suggestions to enhance the auction site ---- who can forget the "Jumping Auction Tab"?
Lastly, I have offered up opinion ...... but my opinion is based on facts AND history.

Let's try a hypothetical example of how I arrive at some of my opinions.
Let's say I walk up to a concrete wall.
I bang my head as hard as I can against the wall.
The result ..... my head hurts.
The next day I walk up to the same wall.
Again, I bang my head as hard as I can against the wall.
Again, my head hurts.
The following day, I approach the same wall.
I repeat the action.
I get the same result.
DITTO for the 4th day.
On Day 5, I again find myself standing in front of the proverbial wall.
I'm planning on banging my head against the wall again.
(Now here is how I get my opinions) What do you think will be the result?

Now back to Overstock and a new "head of auctions".
Overstock is the wall.
Holly is Day 1.
JT Stephenson (I believe that was his name) is Day 2.
Stormy is Day 3.
Meghan is Day 4.
Day 5 will soon be announced.

Holly never delivered the promised site.
JT never delivered the promised site ..... actually, he never did anything noticeable.
Stormy never delivered the promised site.
Meghan never delivered the promised site.

Do ya kinda see a pattern here?
Do ya wonder why many retain little hope for this announcement?
Fool me once, shame on you ... fool me twice, shame on me ...... five times ---- I don't think so!

History has shown that the "revolving door" policy for the head of auctions has brought only false promises and lack of direction on management's part, creating frustration and abandonment on many seller's part.

For there to be good relationship between Overstock and myself and, I believe, many others is not impossible.
They want my/our support?
They want my/our encouragement?
They want my/our goodwill?
Very simple ...............

EARN IT.

They had it at one time.
They lost it thru their ineptness.
They want it back????

EARN IT.

OBTW ....... I don't see it happening.

As a buyer I don't give much credence to the bashing that goes on in chat rooms. I love shopping on O; the sellers I've dealt with there have almost all been great. A couple of bad apples in the bunch that I've bought from, but I never lost any money. I will have to check out your listings there, as you have the attitude of a seller I would like to do business with sometime.

I suspect your success is also because you spend less time in chat rooms every day, and more time actually working at selling. Wink

cheddarmom -------- You are correct.
As a buyer, as long as you are checkout who you are buying from and don't end up getting scammed, Overstock IS a good place for buying.

There are many very good sellers on Overstock.
There are many good sellers on Overstock that are also members here on PSU.
I think, and now we are getting in to my opinion on something, that if you are dealing with a small reputable seller on Overstock, one with a proven history, you can find some really great items at some really great prices.
The one you mentioned in your post is a prime example of this.
Unfortunately, one of the reasons you can get such great items at such a low price is because of the lower traffic to Overstock compared to eBay. lower traffic, less buyers, less bids, lower prices.

I will offer up one word of caution though .................
Be careful who you buy from when dealing with the larger sellers.
I nailed one for shill bidding.
It had been going on for months.
Items were selling for 3..4...5 times what they should have been going for.
I had the FACTS.
I had them cold.
I gave it all to Overstock ..... the head of auctions.
The result ........... they disabled the IDs that were doing the shill bidding.
The seller ID is still alive and active on the site.
Now think about it.
Shill bidding cannot occur without the seller and bidder both being aware and participating in it.
Shill bidding is also very illegal.
Yet Overstock chose to banish the bidders, yet the seller continues untouched.
I see something wrong with this.
I also see a real problem with ethics concerning that action .... or lack of.

But then HEY ...... that's just one man's opinion.

Mud pies. You throw it at the wall and see what sticks.

Overstock Press Release about Mudpies

Why put that idiot in charge of a "social media product" mudpie? Who knows.

Priceless WP!
I actually read that back in the day, but had forgotten it entirely! Good laugh, cause it is a most interesting business model.
Don't think it has worked though, cause I have yet to see anything called "profit" in the Q reports, always just a matter of how big a loss.

And BFD, I had completely fogotten the JP guy, who kinda never really took over!
My favorite was Stormy Simon. She had vision, but was smart enough to get out of the job as quickly as she could.
She is doing their TV commercials now, and she seems good at it.
