Congrats to eCrater and it's members....it hit that mark last night but I didnt say anything in case it dipped the milestone but it keeps on shooting up.....maybe it's a sign they are gaining more momentum and instead of averaging between 2-3 thousand listings per day they will starting averaging an increase of 5 thousand per day....

eBid doesnt have their own forum but we need keep an eye on them as well....almost 1.1 million listings...everyone knows my own personal feelings but I cant deny their growth....<grin> and while it is nice to see them grow we dont want them catching up to eCrater....

We all just need to do our part. Personally, I'm listing new items every day on ecrater.
No sales yet but I've only been open for 9 days.

Wow! I have been gone for a week on a much needed vacation and buying trip, and I see that the eCRATER listing count now is 1,310,255! Amazing growth!

I put my store on "hold" while I was out of town, and I am back up and running today, and trying to get going on listing again.

I am starting to list some of the items I found while traveling. If you are like me, everywhere I go is a "buying trip". Here is one item that I listed on my eCRATER VintageMoonbeams store today:

Wallace Silversmiths 1971 Silver Sleigh Bell Ball Christmas Ornament 1st Edition Annual Silverplate Decoration

Click on this link to see more photos and more information about this highly collectible first in the series Wallace Silverplate 1971 Sleigh Bell Christmas Ornament:

Mug. Sorry, but I need to temper your enthusiasm a bit.

While I think eCrater is doing well and has the most potential out of the alternative sites, I do not think they have made it to the "big leagues" just yet. When they hit the 10 Million mark and are consistant about it then we can say that.

While 10 Million listings seems like a dream today, momentum can be a big factor. Being realistic I think that the 10 million mark is 2-3 years away at the current growth rate but if the count keeps on growing, and people experience a good rate of success over the holidays, a tipping point could occur and the eCrater might hit the 10 million mark by Christmas, 2009.

What a lot of people do not realize is that eBay actually has at least 80 million listings worldwide at any given time when you take store listings into account. You cant just go by the listing count you see here.

One million listings on an alternative site is a big achievement but still nothing more than an "early" milestone in determining success compared to eBay.

And I wouldnt count BJ out yet. There seem to be many internal issues affecting them at the moment and not the least of which is the members themselves seem to have forgotten how to be a community and what community means. I get angry when I look in the forums and see the pettiness and infighting. I expect better. A strong and involved owner could turn that around if he chose to.

Despite the problems BJ is going through right now, I am still enamored by the ease and beauty of the platform itself which is superior to any other platform out there.

Impressive.. wow, lots of items, coz it's all free to list. But the main question is - has anyone sold anything worth mentioning?

Tymyoung,

I understand what you are trying to do, but don't you think it's a bit early to start on about a site that won't be out for months or a year?

I'm not a very patient person, so this whole "I've got a site coming out in a few months or more," doesn't make me too happy. Don't build up anticipation only to have us sit around until it is completed. Why not just wait until it's done and then you can do your promoting.

Huh? Asking how sales are doing in eCrater is considered promoting??

Yeah, but you keep on with your 2 cents that always seems to lead to your new site. Obviously, that is your intent. Most of us are really looking for alternative places to list items.

I see. Indeed, that there is no need for me to mention my site at all, since it's still long before it's ready. And it'll be different from everyone else's in here, so competition is not a concern. Unless your name is eBay, here is enough room for everyone.

No problem, I won't mention it anymore.. but I just want to clarify that my intent is primarily to learn, and the best way to do that as I was taught as a child.. was to ask.

I have only sold 4 items so far but I do not promote the site yet...when I have time to move more inventory I will promote it then.

As for worth mentioning....who knows? I do know that they do average over 500 invoices a day for sales so things are selling and it is during the slow months....as I said before....this upcoming holiday season will be the test....

I am not saying eCrater is as good as eBay for sales or even close....but it does seem to be the best alternative out there compared to other sites....real or imagined...

I sold a few baby bedding sets on eCrater, probably averaging around $130. each. I think those were all in 2007. The average eCrater sale for me this year is only around $17.

500 invoices a day? that's great consider it's still slow season. and i'm not sure if this is really the best alternative out there.. almost every site claims that, including the new bonanzle.com. but i haven't heard any bad things about ecrater, so hope they make it big!
