I'm not a mass-ebay buyer or seller with just over 100 feedback since 1999 when I joined.
What caused me to join this site was this. Ebay's new policy is that sellers can't leave feedback for buyers. 90% of the time I'm a buyer and until the past 3 months, I've never had a problem getting or giving positive feedback with any of my transaction partners. Now, (since May), I've had 2 sellers refusing to provide feedback for me of course after I first gave them pos feedback after receiving the item.
I can understand why sellers won't leave feedback first, and I can almost understand some sellers' position that 'why leave feedback for buyers when it can only be positive.....WTF !'. This last scenario I lay squarely on Ebay's policy makers because IMHO, feedback is the credibility currency of on-line transactions. Both the seller and buyer need to be assured that they truely are empowered to leave HONEST, not coerced feedback for the other party.
Since I have 100% pos feedback in adequate quantity since before Ebay's policy change, I know sellers can trust me and I'm not going to be hurt by a couple of non-quid pro quo sellers.
What would really concern me is those new buyers to Ebay, not getting reciprocal feedback, getting discouraged or PO'd and leaving Ebay (or on-line transactions) altogether.
IMO, Ebay has over reacted to the seller-buyer tit-for-tat (regardless of truth) negative feedback exchanges. On a percentage basis, I'm guessing 99.9% of feedback is given and received in good faith. (again, I'm not a heavy Ebay user so if you disagree with this %, please make the case).
Anyhow, that's who I am and why I've come here to rant.
Ebay needs some major competition (privately held by "Ebayers" for "Ebayers" (read On-Line Sellers and Buyers)) soon.
Lately I've had some high end audio equipment to sell and did it successfully on Audiogon.com for a FLAT $6 listing fee. No way am I going to give 15% of the second highest bid (or a chunk of a somewhat lowball Buy It Now price) to Ebay/PP if I can at all help it.
Anyhow, greetings and thanks for the welcome.
Please post any popular alternative auction or fixed price selling sites that I should be patronizing as both a seller and buyer !
Thanks. |
