Thanks for the information!!! It is important to keep the good information out there as much as it is to voice concerns. Done correctly, it gives the readers something to chew on and they can make an informed decision - whichever decision they make, it is then theirs.

sounds like someone is making millions on founding memberships! anyone else tired of hearing "the people here are so nice and helpful" sorry but that doesnt pay my bills. only sales do and im not getting that on OLA. a bunch of broken promises. people scorned by ebay are looking for "any" place to go and arent realizing that they are being promised the world. OLA is a great"social" site where people go to gossip and chat.

I do have to say that I was one of the people that went for the founding membership over there. I tried all different avenues to get sales and got a few but most were from in house sellers which was appreciated. Myself and a few other have been drowned out by the supporters there about what needs to be done to make it a viable place to sell. One looks like they were kicked out altogether though that remains to be verified. They are just not realizing there will be no good growth there with the way things stay at this time. The google feed I am sorry to say is a joke with them only providing you a cvs file so that you have to submit them yourself. Why can't they do it themselves like so many other sites and some of them free? There is not going to be any rss feeds from the site again like so many other free sites provide to you. I just do not have the time to sit here all day and worry about services that most sites supply as basic.

I will hang around for the year to see what happens there but will not be listing anything more and certainly not giving them anymore money for anything. The few sellers that are doing okay there really don't care if things improve or not. Their job seems to be sweeping the dirt under the rug so no one will see. It is too bad that all the nice unsuspecting folks will pay for it in the end.

A small group of us have moved over to another site that was mentioned in here and not by name. Just the description was enough to know where that was. Just about every one of us has already made multiple sales in just a few days as compared with no sales in months at ola. I would encourage people to look long and hard at ola before plunking down 200 bucks for something that may never materialize. I am not bitter about the whole thing but real disappointed at how things turned out. Thats life on the internet though.

I am right there with you. You could not have said it better or more clearly.

You win some and lose some. But it blows my socks off that another site (unmentioned) can only be up and running for a couple of months and have my items pop up at the top in google and have rss feeds and all these other wonderful things.

I am eternally hopeful, so have hopes OLA will do what they are promising, but can't afford to wait and am moving on but keeping an eye on them.

I would like to see their rumblings turn to a glorious rainfall in which business can grow and prosper!!!

Between Aug 08 and Sept 07, 2008: 24 founding members let their membership expire. 35 new founding memberships were started.

Fain isn't making millions, but at $196. a pop, he's doing alright for himself.

Sales, based on feedback changes for that same time period is: 1,752 for the entire venue. That's not accurate since all feedback for all sales is not counted; some folks likely didn't leave feedback.

Following is a list of as of individual Founding Members feedback totals 09/07/08. The vast majority have less than 50 sales. Anyone interested in figuring out the average sale price for those with better sales can review completed sale for various members. I noted that a few of the brand new founding members had one to a few sales. Unfortunately, a lot of members who've been with the venue for months have had no sales.

Either way, OLA is doing alright. I'm thinking running a subscription based venue isn't a bad gig, prolly better 'n hawkin' my stuff all over cyber...

That's the biggest problem with some of these start ups.

No advertising and/or proper SEO

I might of mentioned it somewhere before.
I tried OLA when they came online.
Got I think, 2-3 sales off the bat.

All the sales were from ID's registered in the same town OLA is located in.

Certainly this site is not a start up, I would say. Has been around in some form since around 1998 I believe. However it appears the chat room has been cleaned so to speak. A few posters there who were questioning this chap Fain's intentions post are removed or have been removed from the site complete, pity tho, as it seems some yanks have forgotten what made your country. Certainly as far as fain is concern, this fellow has no idea for the future of the site or for its sellers, as one obvious dissenter of online auction so quaintly put it, he gets his money upfront why should he care?

I signed up for OLA in Jun and only had one sale which I sterred there from feebay - and I did it just to get the feedback built up, But other than that as waste of money, I joined blujay and had 3 sales in a month without lifting a finger. I just signed up for Bananzle and had a sale witin hours of opening my booth, again didnt lift a finger. I will keep ioffer just as long as there no listing fees. I dont see the imrovements they promised in July, juast opverall not impressed.

It's really just a shame so many people are out so much money. If he made promises that he hasn't kept, there could be a base for a class action suit. One would have to have proof of any promises or enough members to recall what promises were made.

I only think of that as so many refer to OLA as a scam.

This could be part of the problem for me. Due to the nature of selling NATIVE plants on the east coast,I don't sell to the west coast

The site is down once again without any notice to the sellers. If they need the site down, the work should be done late at night or super early in the mornings with notices given.

According to Fain on the radio last night it is up to the sellers to promote the site and get people to join. Same thing he said two weeks ago.

I believe ola is "cleaning their chats" again. Can't get into the Cafe at all, not even through links in emails. I keep getting the error message "The topic or post you requested does not exist".

This is utterly ridiculous.

Yep the cafe is totally gone right now. Probably had to delete the information that was posted over there about them maybe not having the fixed price auction done so it will show in google. You are right about it being ridiculous. They are running around like a dog chasing its tail trying to cover up all the talk about how the site is a mismanaged mess. Probably are putting that button in there for the cheerleaders right now.
