PostPosted: Tue Aug 05, 2008 7:04 pm   Post subject:  Google Base, Google Checkout, and Shipping charges #1  Back to top

For about the last 5 weeks, I've been listing items directly to Google Base and so far have about 120 items listed. I have Google Checkout and a cart. I have gone batty trying to figure out how to get shipping charges to show on GC. I haven't had any sales yet, so at least I haven't had to contact any buyers asking them to send additional money for shipping.

I think I've read every post in the help sections of google base, here, and a couple of other places, but just don't get it!

If I'm understanding what I've read, there is a code that has to be entered into the 'Location and Delivery' area by clicking on the edit button in that section. I've clicked on that, but don't see where any code goes. I'm not even sure I'm found the correct instructions on what that code should be.

I want to state a shipping charge on each item. My stated charge will be a flat rate charge and I only use USPS for shipping.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Does anyone know of any screen shot type of instructions. I've been trying to figure this out for days now and am about to give up.

Thanks!!!

Google checkout is still not capable of calculating shipping.

Until they figure this out. You could do what I do and include the shipping in the total price and add "FREE SHIP" to the title.

I also add "Note: Shipping is included to US addresses only, contact me for combined shipping for multiple purchases or for an international shipping quote." in the description.

Just to be safe remove the columns for shipping from your upload so that if they fix this before your upload expires your items don't get too expensive.

That's one way but you can also send shipping amounts to the google checkout so that it shows up under the shipping dropdown. You can even send multiple shipping options so that the buyer can choose one there, but I haven't come up with a good reason to do it that way as opposed to having them select one in your cart and sending only the selected one.

I don't know how your cart is integrated so I've hesitated to answer. However, the one way I know sets up an XML segment for the cart, encodes it and sends that code with the "google" button on your cart. That's mostly behind the scenes, but if you're programming your cart to set this up maybe this will help.

The shipping portion is in the shipping-methods XML tag. within that tag, use the subtag for flat rate, price, and shipping name:

<shipping-methods >
<flat-rate-shipping name="UPS Next Day Air" >
<price>20.00</price>
</flat-rate-shipping >
</shipping-methods >

You can put just about anything in the name portion, since it's flat rate as far as GC is concerned. Your cart calculates it ahead of time of course. That's all you really need to have in it to make shipping work.

If you need to know where the shipping methods goes, it is in the tags:
<checkout-flow-support>
<merchant-checkout-flow-support>
above shipping method here
</merchant-checkout-flow-support >
</checkout-flow-support>

If you're still monitoring this, and this wasn't helpful or clear or not relevant to your setup, please let me know and I'll try again.

are you talking to me or the previous poster...either way, we are talking about googlebase not a shopping cart

Have you actually had this work on googlebase? I uploaded several bulk files with the shipping specified in both xml and tab formats and if someone buys the item, there is no shipping charged.

Well that's what I thought too which is why I didn't answer for so long but he also said "I have google checkout and a cart" which I took to mean that he might be uploading to googlebase but with his own cart. If so then the code snippets might help him setting up his cart.

I upload with a feed but host our own item pages, with my own cart. It still shows the google checkout button in google base; somehow googlebase recognizes that I do have google checkout. If instead he's letting google add the buttons on the google site hosted item pages (which he probably is) then I'm sure you've looked into it and no doubt your right and it doesn't work.
