Hi,I became a Powerseller 6 months ago but now I really have had enough with the latest ebay's 'policies'.... I waited for my listings to end and I do not intend to relist anything anymore.

I sell musical instruments, anyone knows the best sites to sell such items?
I am going to try eBid.....any other ones?

Thanks and all the best

If you know the price point you want to set, the free store sites (eCrater, BluJay, BuyItSellIt) may be worth looking at. Your own website may be a great way to go. OnlineAuction.com might work out, as may eBid.net.

CQOut and SpecialistAuctions (as well as eBid) should allow you to list in GBP, some others may require USD. Tazbar is another UK-friendly site.

Music dedicated sites that might fit your merchandise:
eRock.net, Gear-Vault.com, BandBids.com

hi purple_
thank you for the good suggestions. I too was thinking about getting my own website, but I basically would have to become a business, right?

I mean,I would have to accept credit cards, etc
I am reading a 'business for dummies' book....in the meantime I'll also check out all the sites that you mentioned. Thanks and all the best

Well, "becoming a business" is a very good way to raise buyer confidence Very Happy

However, if you prefer hobby selling, eBid may fit your needs just fine. Wink

well I just have a finite number of items....about 8 of them. They are high-value items worth about $ 1000 each. What's the best way to sell on my website?

What should I offer as payment method? Is Google Checkout less 'risky' than Paypal, for selling?
I have heard so many bad things about Paypal...I am scared that I might sell one of these valuable items and get scammed in the form of a chargeback, etc.

I don't know where to start from....any suggestions? thanks Smile

This forum is a very good place to start. I *think* from all I have read here, that Google is less likely to suffer a chargeback and pass it along, though I could be wrong. However, Google Checkout has some country limitations - depends on where you're selling to - more countries can buy than can sell (I *think* only US & UK can currently sell using GC). Moneybookers and xCoin have been well spoken of. PPPay is what eBid uses - I'm not sure if that is site specific or not. A variety of methods of payment acceptance may increase your sales, though PayPal is still the most popular in the States - I don't know about in the UK. PayPal is somewhat less "risky" when used off of eBay. Google Checkout is fairly well accepted also. Both of these effectively replace a Merchant Account.

I would try to be sure your items are uploaded to Google Products/Shopping - that is your best exposure, IMO. Keep in mind the majority of online shoppers have never used eBay - that is your best audience.

I would suggest for just 8 $1000 items that you might look at the sites I suggested above and see which seem to fit with your product, whatever it may be. A free store may be a reasonable substitute for a website and easier to get up and running. Unless these items are replenishable (i.e. TVs or some such).

Use the search feature on this forum, wander and read the other threads - many sellers leaving each other tips. Search your products on Google and see what others are doing.

Hi, I know what you mean about ebay's fees and searching for alternatives. I'm the owner of http://gear-vault.com/classifieds and we're dedicated at keeping the site Free. You can also make your own featured store on there too for free. It's a growing community and a nice circle of friendly folks. You should stop by and check it out. It won't cost you anything Smile

Hope to see you there Wink
