I was hoping McCain would release the name of his V.P. pick just before Obama's speech tonight so the media would sit inside the stadium and talk republican during Obama's democratic speech.

Is that to much to ask? Smile

I heard McCain wasn't going to release his pick until Friday morning. I guess someone in the democratic party pitched a bit_h or threatened some kind of "God Awlful" revenge if he sunk that low.

Another explanation could be that his goal is to prick the euphoric balloon after Obama's coronation extravaganza tonight. Most people at Invesco Field will be caught up in the anticipation and rhetoric surrounding their own party, not evaluating McCain's campaign.

They'll be at Invesco because they believe that Obama will lead the transformation of America into the land of milk and honey regardless of who the Republican candidates are.

Some of that enthusiasm will spread through the airwaves to the national (and international) TV audience. By announcing tomorrow after the first blush of emotional euphoria starts to subside, McCain can get more bang for the buck, so to speak.

Just another way of looking at it.

Big issue on everyone's mind is the economy. Our economy, whether we light to admit it or not, is currently based on fossil fuels. Not only does the high cost of gas nail us at the pump, virtually all commerce is dependent on moving merchandise and commodities into and out of the marketplace via fossil fuel propelled vehicles. The higher the production, manufacturing and transportation costs, the more our pocketbooks are assaulted bereft a corresponding raise in wages

While it is very important, a vital necessity in fact, to develop new alternative fuels, we need to develop affordable fossil based fuels for the present and near future while the new fuels (and vehicles capable of using them) are developed.

So yes, the mantra "it's the economy, stupid," is correct. But our economy is fossil fuel driven for at least the next several years.

Fox news just announed McCain has picked his running mate. At least half the news program time will be given to McCain now instead of all Obama and his speech tonight. Fox news is hoping for a leak as to whom it is. Smile

This energy thing should have been started back in the 70's. Who ever gets into office republican or democrat the alternative energy sources will be delvoped now. The only difference between the republican and democrats is wheather to drill or not to drill to ease the pain at the pumps right now.
Pick a democrat and there will be no relieve and higher taxes. Most of the drill or not drill will be based on who gets elected into congress if McCain gets elected. If Obama gets elected congress won't have a say because they know he will veto and unless congress has the votes to override the veto it won't happen.

Democrats are changing their position on drilling. Bowing to public pressure, they are now calling for some "responsible" drilling. (I would hope the Repubs would also be looking for and ensuring "responsible" drilling.)

After all these years listening to, and trying to achieve the massive environmental lobby's goals of $4 - $5 gas in order to reduce use, they're finding out the full scope of the equation in harming our economy. It's not just the general public not driving more, it's the whole economy tanking. The repubs wanted high gas prices for other reasons and are learning the same lesson the hard way also.

The public not just wants, but need lower fuel cost now, not 10 years for now. Both parties are going to be looking for bipartisanship solutions to fuels costs. Neither party, nor any individual politician desires to be in the cross hairs of irate voters in 2010 if identified as a roadblock to lower cost fuels during the next couple of years.

And all politicians will be seeking out and backing the quick development of alternative fuels for the same reason.

If obama becomes the Pres and raises taxes, fine!. If he wants 2 cents out of my nickel. Fine!. As a U.S. Taxpayer, I'm fine with that. Are You Shell or Exxon fine with that. Or GM or IBM? If he brings back jobs to this country, I'm all for it. This idea of Globalization that every single company, corporation has taken adavantage of has got to stop. Why these Giants of Industry do this? Health Insurance Costs. That's just one of the reasons. If it cost me more to buy that widget made in the USA, so be it. Somebody here in the USA has found a job making that widget and has Health Insurance. Wow!! Do you expect that from McBush.

Hasn't worked for 8 years and pushing 5000 US Soldiers lives in that raggedy ass country called a toilet in the middle East.

my issues..

1) political parties and the fact that they have to conform to specific party wide ideals. example... dems and taking away our guns and taxking the crap out of us to help the poor, reps protecting big business and the rich. right now i'm on the fence. i like obama's ideas but i also like my guns and my hard earned money.

2) the electoral college... why bother voting if you dont get final say on it? the whole thing is a crock.

3) democrats and taxing the crap out of us to help those that need help. how's about the ones that need help get jobs? hows about all those people on welfare that can work get a job? hows about NOT making it an incentive to breed if you cant pay for yourself as it is? no more living off the system and breeding more kids to live off the system!

4) republicans and their protecting big business and the rich. why arent we all taxed equally? why arent we taxing the crap out of imports the same way some of these countries do to our products?

5) 2008, the election of the deceased. mccain is too old to be in office, if obama wins, how many white hooded guys are gonna be out there trying to take him out? hope our government's got a good backup plan! this is a scary election year!

6) immigration. open arms is fine as long as our own people dont suffer because of it. whats so wrong about saying "sorry, this country is full" until we sort our own issues with our own citizens? think i'm being too rough? try getting citizenship in some european countries!

ok.. i feel better now.. thanks for the chance to vent

Clinton started all this B.S. with the economy. Yea, the economy boomed because of what Clinton did but Clinton was warned that the economy would crash later down the road. It just so happened to crash in the bush admin. I blame Bush for not recongnizing and reversing Clintons decisions but will not blame Bush as the cause of what this country is experiancing now.

You gonna Blame Clinton for that, too?

Sounds like open Season on the Demos.

It's okay with you that there were never any Weapons of Destruction found in that piece of crap country. But, you are worried about Obama raising your taxes? Okay. He has to raise taxes because you dip dung idiot Republican voters decided on the BushWacker. Now, you want to vote on BushWacker 2?

"...because you dip dung idiot Republican voters..."

How refreshing, rational and concise debating skills at it's best. This style of debating seems to dominate the political scene these days -- including on the floor of Congress.

So long as this style of debate dominates discussion of the issues in this country, neither the right nor the left, and certainly not the American public in general will benefit.

@Ocean - I'm sitting in line at Invesco Field awaiting entrance to the extravaganza. The only talk I hear is pertaining to either Obama or the chances of the Broncos this season - mainly the Broncos.

Part of the talk from one rather large group milling about near us is concerning the alleged reports that soldiers in Iraq are donating at a ration of 6 to 1 in favor of Obama.

Seems contrary to what my son told me on the phone the other day. He's serving on one of the Combat Out Posts (unknown location - he calls once every 4 to 6 weeks when they get to a major installation) in Iraq. He says they've heard the same reports over there but has yet to meet anyone who's donating to Obama out of the few who have donated to either one of them.

Oh Please, give me a break. Such closed thinking is what is wrong here.

OMG. Do I have the right to think anymore. Or is it just what is forced fed to me? Sick. Very Sick Country. Oh, I forgot. The Cable idiots are going to express their idiotic opinions. Jeez. I forgot to watch the last segment by the idiots from cable news about the latest "word" that have all of them in a dither.

Ah Dude!, I'm an independant. Actually we should have went into Iraq during the first gulf war like the 1st big Bush promised some of the factions in Iraq. We did go into Iraq during the first gulf war but didn't finish the job.

No I don't approve of our brave young soldiers getting killed over their. But I also don't approve of Al Queda being left to live another day. The whole middle east is filled with Al Queda. Kill 'em all off and if they are in Iran kill them their also.

Better to kill them their then to have them grow again and come back here to kill more innocent American citizens who are just going to work.

What do you recommend, "Sit Down And Have Tea & Cake" with people and governments who cheered when the two "TWIN TOWERS" collasped and killed all those people who were just going to work? You don't think they will do this again if given the chance? How would you like to walk into a suicide bomber when you walk into a grocery store? How would you like to see a family of 4 out on a Sunday afternoon at the mall in your home town get "Blown Up" by a suicide bomber?

In my eyes, if they cheered "KILL 'EM"!

You're right, irrational belligerence is much more intelligible debate - it definitely opens up thinking. Inarticulate thought and whining is much more convincing than an actual discussion of the issues. The name calling and self proclaimed victimization only adds authority to it.
